Brightening Someone’s Day

Hi everyone!

Happy TAX day……glad those are done. ugh. :/

Anyways, how was your Monday?

I know a bunch of you asked (thank you!)–so let me fill ya in on my first day as a SAHM:

It was pretty darn good! :)

I felt so much more relaxed. I had more time to just sit and play with little Lily. I actually did the dishes in the sink, and was able to put stuff away from the day. (Usually our apartment looked like a tornado had blown in every week Monday-Friday). And I was able to have some time to just sit and think and pray, take a walk with the little one, and not have to rush back to my desk even after my husband got home.

There are obviously downsides to this whole gig, but that’s okay. I feel so right about this decision for our family so I am going with it!

I will take you along for the ride (ups and the downs) through this whole crazy change–so be excited. 😉

Brightening Someone’s Day

I wanted to share my thoughts on something that occurred the other day….I was on the receiving end of a really kind, thoughtful gift.

And it was anonymous!

{I SO want to know who made and left such a kind gift….so reveal yourself! ;)}

No for reals, I just want to talk about the wonderful emotion of being on that receiving end, and how it made ME want to be a person who did more thoughtful things on the reg.

A person left this (in a wrapped package) at our door the other day:

brightening someone's day

It may not seem like much, but it meant so much to me.

Here’s why: we had a binkie attachment thingee (word for it?) but it didn’t have that part that would actually attach the binkie to the main section…so we had to use that metal clip to clip it to the binkie whenever we went anywhere so we wouldn’t lose it. And thus, could never attach the binkie to her shirt, nor keep the long part on the binkie because she couldn’t suck on the binkie with the metal part attached to the main part of the binkie.

Whew. That was confusing.

ANYWAYS. The point is, someone must have known/seen that we had to unattach the binkie from the main string every time we needed to give her the binkie, and so they MADE a new one to allow the binkie to stay comfortably attached to this new long piece. And with a matching burp cloth to go with it.

This gift meant so much because:

  • it was thoughtful
  • it came from a kind person who saw a need
  • it wasn’t expensive or lavish….it was super practical
  • it was something I can’t make or do (no artistic-ness here!)
  • it was out of nowhere and for seemingly no reason

I felt very touched by this person’s thoughtfulness…I actually cried!

{I guess a new mama cries over burp clothes and binkie holders….hah}

I was just so floored that someone thought of me and my need, and then DID something about it. How kind of them! I felt so loved, so watched over, and so grateful for such a nice act of kindness.

And as I mentioned above, it made me want to DO something for someone else (and find the person who did this….but that’s another story 😉 ).

So, I did just that: I baked up something and brought it to someone I thought might need to know she is loved and appreciated.

I am not saying this to take credit for anything, but just to share the experience of how being on the receiving end of such kindness made me want to be that person who brought kindness and thoughtfulness to another. <3

Plus, it feels REALLY go to about brightening someone’s day. :) It can be something as simple as a text, phone call, note, hug, or even a prayer for that person.

I am a firm believer in the idea that if you want to forget about your problems you go serve someone else– brighten them, and lighten their burden just a tad….your problems will seem to dissipate in no time!

Have a WONDERFUL day! <3

What was a very thoughtful gift someone gave YOU lately??! What is something YOU have done lately to brighten another’s day?!? What inspires YOU the most to help another??!

Oh my goodness, this story made ME almost tear up! (and LOVE that quote about congress, btw, hah).
I definitely agree that when someone does something completely selfless and kind for me (even just giving me a smile or a hug), it makes me want to do something like that for someone else…it’s like a chain reaction or something. This story alone makes me want to do something nice for someone today! :)

A dear friend once share a quote with me..I don’t remember it exactly, but it was something along the lines of stating that our life on Earth is so fleeting, and it truly just a very small part of something so much larger than we are…what better way to spend it than serving others? Love love love. <–(this makes me want to go search for the actual quote…)
THANK YOU for sharing this with us!

FOUND IT!: “Given the scale of life in the cosmos, one human life is no more than a tiny blip. Each one of us is a just visitor to this planet, a guest, who will only stay for a limited time. What greater folly could there be than to spend this short time alone, unhappy or in conflict with our companions? Far better, surely, to use our short time here in living a meaningful life, enriched by our sense of connection with others and being of service to them.”

  3. I think we get so caught up in our own lives, our schedules, our to-do lists, that we so often fail to stop and think about other people and their needs. I know I do. I’m very encouraged by people like your ‘mystery friend’ and the people in my life who are constantly doing thoughtful things. It does make you want to pay it forward, which is so beautiful! Like a chain reaction, and the person who started it doesn’t even know what impact their kindness ended up having on several people, not just the one they did something for. So awesome!

  5. A little bit of kindess goes a long way. It’s not much but anytime I get a BOGO offer for the coffee place, I always go and use it with the person in line behind me. It’s not much, but it’s the little things.

  6. It’s a proven fact that you get more pleasure out of helping others than helping yourself. And it always seems to come back. That’s so sweet of you to pass along some baked goods.

You’ll have me on alert today, and I’ll be looking for what I can do for someone else for no reason at all. :)

  7. I love reading stories like this:) Doing something kind for others feels so good. I think what inspires me to do more things for other people is just the knowing of how good it feels, and how a little bit of kindness goes such a long way in someone’s day! You never know what that person is going through and it could change their day around for the better.

My husband is very thoughtful, and is always thinking of others. I’ve definitely learned a lot since being with him. Even the smallest thing like a smile or asking about someone’s day can help. :-)
