WIAW-A Day in the Life of a Mom of a Newborn

Happy Wednesday!

This week is flying by for us, mostly because Monday was holiday-esque for us, having Jared home and all.

First of all, I want to wish a VERY happy birthday to my little sister, Sara! She is 20 today. :)

She is the sister who came and visited me all by herself in October (she has Down’s Syndrome), and she owns her own bread business. Pretty amazing stuff that girl is accomplishing already! (By the way, she has a twitter account if you want to follow her! She is sure to make your day with her loving tweets!)

love you, birthday girl, Sara!

Today I’m going to do a what I ate Wednesday (linking up)! <–check out what it’s all about.

And I am going to do it a ‘day in the life’ style. Since I’m sure we’re all pretty nosy.

WIAW-A Day in the Life of a Mom of a Newborn

{quite the title eh?? oh and this is obviously from yesterday, Tuesday. it is also NOT all I ate}

12:30 a.m. Baby Lily decides it’s time to wake up….. mama is not too happy, especially since she slept 7.5 hours straight the night before (was hoping for another one of those!!). After trying to soothe her in her crib (we try this first to see if she’ll fall back asleep), I decide I am way too tired to stand there & pat her back, so I pick her up & soothe her on my chest in our bed.

She does not want to go back to sleep & seems super agitated.  I keep patting & rocking her while also snoozing a bit I think.

1:52 a.m. I finally decide to put her back in her bed & see if she’ll fall back asleep. Apparently she did! After just a quick hop of Jared to put the binkie back in, she fell asleep.

4:40 a.m. I wake up to dream feed baby Lily before I have to head out. I get dressed first, then feed her.

5:03 a.m. Put her back in her crib (she slept through the whole feed).

5:04 a.m. Eat a piece of whole wheat toast with jam. Drink a small cup of FitMixer aminos (I definitely needed those!!)

no pic of those-sorry!

5:11 a.m. leave house, scrape off car, drive to gym

5:21 a.m. arrive at gym and clock in

5:22-5:29 a.m. Set up the mic, my stuff, and greet people

5:30 a.m. start teaching BodyPUMP class

6:29 a.m. end BodyPUMP class. talk to a few people.

Also, with my exahusted body, I take selfies of my new outfit from Fabletics!

a day in the life bodypump fabletics a day in the life bodypump fabletics

Such a fun matching outfit–with that little detail on the capris! I LOVE the capris. SO soft & amazing fit. I like the top (it’s cute & the color is great), but it fits a bit funky. I am pretty sure it’s designed for shorter girls/shorter torsos. I’ve always had this problem with ‘fitted’ sports shirts though, the hip part hits me too early, making it flare a bit funky. But it is super soft & would be perfect if you’re shorter!

Fabletics is fitness clothes co-designed by Kate Hudson, and I loved trying my outfit out. Just so ya know, you can get a 2-piece outfit for just 25$ right now! GET the capris I have, you can thank me later. 😉

They also sent me this cover up from Fabletics (I took a pic a different day):

Cute, right? It is comfy & I can wear it at home, to the gym, or can dress it up with boots & leggings. WIN! Thanks Fabletics!

After the gym selfies, I drive right home.

I drink 5 ounces of milk mixed with 1 scoop protein powder while driving.

6:45 a.m. arrive home & eat a hardboiled egg with salt/pepper & a small bowl of Chobani plain Greek yogurt with stevia // chat with Jared who is about to leave for school

7:00 a.m. post a pic to Instagram, take a shower, put pajamas back on (yessss), check on Lily (fast asleep), climb back into bed

8:30 a.m. baby Lily wakes up! I feed her, burp her, change her (out of pj’s into clothes, and new diaper), feed her on other side, and burp her. She seems to be wide awake (sometimes she’ll go right back to bed around this time), so I take her into our room & put her in the swing so I can snooze a bit longer. 😉

9:00 a.m. Get Lily out of the swing (she is mesmerized by the spinning thing above her), and play with her in our bed for a bit.

a day in the life

9:30 a.m. Put her back in her crib for her nap.

9:30-11:20 a.m. While she is asleep I eat some food, check & write emails, read some blogs, pat Lily’s back to help her go back to sleep at the 45 min mark (yes, again!!)–she goes back to sleep, make a few phone calls, text my husband.

a day in the life

{whole wheat tortilla + cheddar + spinach, apple on the side. I am so impatient….can ya tell??}

11:20 a.m. Baby Lily wakes up. I feed her, burp her, change her, clean out her nose, and rub some essential oils on her feet.

11:40 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Play time! She plays under her mobile on the mat while I talk and play with her.

a day in the life

We also facetimed my sis and her little boy!

a day in the life

12:20 p.m. Down for the count-another nap!

While she naps I eat lunch:

a day in the life

{boring–another cheese/spinach/w.w. tortilla & a green smoothie (spinach, berries, protein powder, stevia)}

And I also make some phone calls & check/write emails.

1:07 p.m. She awakens from her nap–she is sad. Darn these short naps!!! I feed her, burp her, and feed her, and then while she is eating, I hear her number 2 squirting out (always makes me laugh!!), and then we have to have an outfit change…..

1:20-2:05 p.m. playtime & story time! We read books, chat, blow bubbles, and giggle.

a day in the life

She loves sitting on me, slightly leaning back.

Goodness, I love our moments together!

2:05 p.m. She is donezo, so I put her down for a nap (she actually insists she fall asleep on me first. I don’t mind!) Then I transfer her to the crib & pat her back.

2:15-4:00 p.m. Clean the kitchen, throw some laundry in, clean the bathrooms, read for a bit. I also eat a snack & check some emails.

4:00-5:30 p.m. baby Lily is awake, yay! So it’s eating time, change diaper time, and play time!

a day in the life

We also go for a short walk outside (fresh air for us, good for us) to get the mail & take out the trash!

5:45 p.m. Time for a short nap! She naps, I get some dinner together, eat it, and listen to some uplifting talks on my phone.

a day in the life

{caesar chicken salad & a small baked potato with cheese & sour cream}

6:40 p.m. She’s awake, so eating time for her & some alone play time for her. I clean up, we play a bit together.

Then we read books & chat with my mom on facetime!

7:30 p.m. time to get ready for bed for baby Lily! Pjs, book, essential oils & massage, lights out, and then I feed her in the dark while singing to her. :)

7:50 p.m. Jared gets home (yayyyyyy!!! told ya he has long days). He is a gem & helps me with bedtime routine & snuggles with her.

8:15 p.m. She is asleep! She’s doing much better going down for bed (it is much quicker than it has been, thank goodness!)

The rest of the evening is spent being with my husband!

I just typed this up, so I am sure I will have some sort of snack or dessert, and then it’s bed time for me. I will most likely be asleep by 9:30 p.m.!

I hope you had a fun peek into our day! I couldn’t remember every little thing we did (hello did you see what time –and how many times–I got up?!?), but you get the gist of it.

Kinda crazy how ‘busy’ life is with a baby while on maternity leave….and now you can see how I sometimes feel I get NADA done. hah! But I wouldn’t trade it for anything-I love being her mama! I am quickly seeing that baby Lily is way more important than dishes, laundry, or whatever during the day, so the other stuff can wait. It will eventually get done. 😉

Have a WONDERFUL day!! <3

What kind of a day did YOU have yesterday??! Best thing YOU ate yesterday??! I am curious, do YOU have designated days for certain chores??

  2. I love these day in the life posts! As a momma of 2 little ones myself, I don’t have days designated for certain chores. I probably should, but usually am just trying to stay a float here making meals etc. lol!

  5. Love that outfit and the cover up. Love your day! My little one is 7 months now and his naps have majorly decreased. I remember when I would get so much done while he napped at Lily’s age. Now, I have to let the house be messy and that is OKAY!

    • I love teaching at that time for that reason—she’s asleep, no babysitter, and I’m done for the day when she wakes up! :)

  8. Loved having little peek into your day! And I’m quite impressed – I think it was pretty darn detailed, so major props on that! I’m so glad to hear Lily is going down for bed easier. That must be so nice. I’m sure it’ll continue to get better and better too! Also, I LOVE your Fabletics outfit! I have the same issue with tops though – being tall & having a long torso will do that I guess! 😉

  12. Best thing I ate yesterday? Ground turkey stuffed eggplant (I did food prep Monday night, so I get to have it again today! Yay!). Mine was a variation of this recipe: http://thedomesticman.com/2013/09/24/karniyarik-turkish-stuffed-eggplant/ I did ground turkey and jalapeno as my filling though – basic, but yum (because I’m also impatient).

  14. Yesterday was a pretty good day for me because I finally started to feel better! I cleaned my house some more, got some much needed grocery shopping done, made dinner, and I spent some time with my hubby :) The best thing that I ate yesterday was a bowl of the Zuppa Toscana soup that I made :) I don’t really have a designated day for chores because I feel like there is so much to do every single day haha!

I don’t have a “designated day” to clean. I’ve tried the “pick one room a day.” So like family room is mondays and such. Sadly, that doesn’t work for me. I clean when I think it looks dirty =)

totally love the fabletics clothes, will have to check em out!

  18. you make being a mama look super easy Annette! Lily is so cute!

  19. My little guy is 14 weeks and this sounds a lot like our days :). Wouldn’t trade motherhood for anything in the world but some days are definitely better than others. He was sleeping 8-10 hours – but now were up 2-3 times/night. I’ll blame it on a growth spurt, ha

PS love the fitness apparel – super cute!
