Goals for 2014!

Hiiiii friends!

Happy New Year!

Did you have a fun New Year’s Eve?!

We did! Lots of good food, karaoke, baby snuggles, dance dance revolution, sparkling grape juice, and sparklers. It was wonderful!

Oh, and baby Lily took her first selfie.

Haha.

(She loves looking at herself on my phone camera –I flip it around so she can see herself–and during that narcisstic time, I clicked the button & she took a selfie. Hah!)

Goals for 2014

I’m going to keep this real simple, mostly because I was lazy yesterday evening and wanted to spend time with my fam instead of blogging. But I also want to keep myself accountable & actually write these down, so feel free to skip the uglier post. 😉 Just keepin’ it real!

1. Make an effort to live in the present with baby Lily.

It is easy to do stuff on my phone while feeding her & while she’s playing, but I don’t want to be that kind of mom that is ‘just sort of there.’ So it is going to be my number 1 goal to BE with her when I am WITH her. This will take real effort on my part because, like most people, I like to just ‘check’ FB or IG or read blogs, but I am going to put my baby as my number one priority. If this means less blog reading & writing, so be it. Sorry if you’re offended, but blogging and all that goes with it will always take a backseat to my family.

2. Make at least 1 new recipe per month!

I am committed! I have told numerous people that because I now have a baby, and am a real housewife, I am going to cook more!

So to have a goal with real limits, I am going to say at least 1 recipe. I sure hope it’s more though (my sister laughed & was like 1 per MONTH?!? She thought I was going to say 1 per WEEK. hah. No.)

3. Build a strong core.

I am not going to say ‘get my body back’ or ‘get my abs back’ because in all honesty, I am a changed woman because I had my baby, and that is what I love about my body! So I don’t want the old me back.

However, I want a strong core. What that looks like I am not sure, but I am determined to rebuild some of that core strength again.

I will do this by teaching CXWORX 2 times per week, pushing myself and my class to our core’s limits. Lucky them, right?! 😉

4. Have a real date night with Jared at least 1 time every 3 months.

That may sound really infrequent, but a ‘real’ date is much more than just “oh what movie do you want to watch now that baby Lily is in bed?” –and those happen often. So I want to set something more specific. A real date is getting a babysitter & going somewhere for at least an hour or 2.

We don’t have a problem doing that, but it takes planning & commitment to make it HAPPEN, so I am setting it as a goal. I really look forward to my one-on-one time with Jared (especially now that we have a little one and our time together is more limited), so this is going to be wonderful!

5. Actually follow a budget.

I am pretty good about not buying tons of things or going on shopping sprees (I am much better than I used to be when I was single & working!), but I want to have a more set budget. Neither of us are really spenders, nor do we buy things we don’t really need, but I want to limit my wants a bit more, and a budget will help with just that!

6. Serve more. And express my gratitude to those I love more often.

These go hand in hand! The more I serve others the greater my thankfullness for all I have–and that includes my relationships. I want to be more willing to help others and lend a hand in need.

I will do something bigger in the service realm at least 1 time per month (i.e. cook a meal for someone, help clean someone’s house, babysit for free, etc.), and will make a conscious effort to look for small things to lift a heart each week (i.e. smile more, call someone, send a text or card, etc.)

I am EXCITED about 2014!!! This year is going to be amazing, and I am stoked to see what wonderful experiences and growth opportunities we will have :) I must say, I am also so so pumped about watching my little girl continue to grow & develop. It is so so fun already!

Cheers! And a very Happy NEW YEAR to you and your loved ones! <3

  9. I’m so with you on the goal to be more present. It can be easy to get sucked into a virtual world, and even though I love and treasure my “blog friends,” it’s also important to put time and effort into the people who are in front of me. Oh, and the budget thing… Yeah… I need to get on that one ;).
