Christmas Eve 2013 Recap

Hiiii friends!

Happy Friday! <3

We’ve been having a lovely time with family in StL, so let’s update ya on what we did on Christmas Eve! ‘Twas a very special day indeed. So get ready for a looooootttt of pics.

Christmas Eve 2013 Recap

I awoke feeling pretty rested, as baby Lily slept okay, so I decided to do a tough workout.

20 minute HIIT workout:

I did 10 rounds of intervals (switching between 3.5 mph and 7.0 and +. So 1 minute at 3.5 and then 1 minute at 7.0 then 3.5 then 7.1, and so on until 8.0 mph). It was a great one! Fast, sweaty, and furious.

Just how I like my workouts when I need the job done fast!

Then after showers, getting ready, wrapping presents, eating lunch, and getting baby ready, we got ready for a special event.

Lily’s baby blessing.

We believe in blessing our babies when they’re little, and letting them choose when they’re older, if they want to be baptized. (Learn more about why, if you’d like!)

I am so grateful that my husband was able to give her a beautiful blessing. The spirit was very sweet in the room. <3

{the awesome men–bros, bro in laws, & my dad–who joined him while he gave her the blessing!}

I feel very grateful for my sweet little family.

Annnnnnnnd. My sister is the queen of photo bombs.

There are always family pics that are amazing, and she is there being her awesome self.

Luckily we love her a lot, or else I’d be really mad. 😉

With my wonderful parents.

And my mom with her granddaughter just warms my heart!

3 generations!

So sweet, huh?

Fun facts:  So Jared’s mom is an incredible seamstress, and she made baby Lily’s blessing dress! I chose all the material, the lace, and the pattern.

And I actually helped her cut the entire pattern out, sew some of the seams, and do the sleeves. Jared also helped sew some seams. :)

And the pink sash around her waist? That is leftover material from the pink sash that laced up the back of my wedding dress.

Neat, ehh??

She’s totally stolen our hearts. <3

It was a lovely afternoon!!

Then we got to do something really special once again…..

We chatted with my little bro who is on a mission in Switzerland! (We believe in sharing our strong belief in Jesus Christ with others, so that is what he is doing!) We miss him tons, but we’re so proud of him. :)

He is doing great, and we’ll be seeing him again soon when he returns in April!!

And then it was Christmas Eve dinner!

christmas eve 2013 recap

Swiss tradition really centers on Christmas Eve, so all growing up, the 24th was always a bigger deal to me/my family than the 25th, so it throws me off when work doesn’t naturally give me the 24th off.   hah 😉

We always have a Swiss cheese fondue (the BEST!) for Christmas Eve dinner!

My plate (x like 4)–bread, cheeeeeeeeeese, broccoli, fruit. Mmmmmmm!

And then after we were all stuffed from dinner we gather in the family room and had a special program celebrating our Savior.

And we light real candles on a real tree (Swiss tradition), light the full advent wreath, and sing lots of Christmas songs.

It is my favorite part of Christmas actually!

We also watched the kiddos re-enact the nativity scene while my dad read from Luke 2. It was adorable, hilarious, and quite fun! Jared and I were Joseph and Mary, and baby Lily was baby Jesus. :)

The wise men brought their gifts, but when they ‘left’ to go back home, they took the gifts with them. It was soooo funny!

christmas eve 2013 recap

We ate Swiss cookies, chocolate, and just had a lovely evening–albeit a bit crazy with all the little kiddos. 😉

And then, we all got matching Christmas pjs!!!

My parents started that tradition a long time ago, and it has still continued…..

Cute, right?

The men decided they never wore (nor liked) the really hot matching pjs, so they got red & green basketball shorts with white tops instead. Everyone was very happy!

And boy was it fun putting baby Lily into her pjs to match me. Goodness, holidays are SO much more fun with a baby!!

‘Twas a beautiful Christmas Eve indeed!

Have a GREAT Friday & weekend!! <3

How was YOUR Christmas Eve?!? Any fun traditions that YOU enjoy for the Christmas Eve??! What kind of cheese is YOUR favorite??

  3. How perfect! I love the idea of blessing the baby then letting them choose whether or not they will be baptized. We plan to expose Kaylin to multiple religions when we feel she is old enough to understand and then we’ll let her choose whether or not she wants to be a part of one or not! We’re ok with WHATEVER :). The matching PJs- so so cute! Adore it.

  4. Love ALL the pictures! Glad you had a great time celebrating with your family. We always get PJs on Christmas Eve too – Luke got his pair this year too!!

  9. Your family has lots of traditions! That’s so awesome! I hope in upcoming years that my family will start new traditions. The main one we have is just to have a big family dinner and open presents on Christmas Eve. My mom started a ornament tradition for me. I’ve loved it so far and my collection keeps on growing. I love the personal touches!
