Baby’s First Plane Flight
So we made it to StL in mostly 1 piece. Okay, well, in 3 pieces….
…since there are three of us. 😉
It actually went surprisingly really well!
Sadly we had to get up at a freakishly early hour though, after only just going back to bed from feeding Lily at 3:30 a.m., so that was a rough start. I seriously could NOT wake up for the life of me. I felt like a zombie most of the day.
Luckily I have traveled enough that even as a zombie I know how to go through the motions of getting ready (since I don’t really ‘get ready’ anymore), and doing the airport thang.
We even left 20 minutes after we had hoped to leave the house and made it semi on-time to the airport. SCORE.
Jared was a HUGE reason we made it only 20 mins past when we wanted to….he carried alllll of our luggage (hello lots of it!!) to the car, packed it, and then carried Lily in her carseat. I only had to grab my purse & diaper bag. What a stud!
We got all checked in at the airport (p.s. BRING a copy of your baby’s birth certificate–so glad we had it!), dropped our bags off, and then switched Lily from her carseat to the Ergo (she stayed asleep), and got in line for TSA.
Guess what?! TSA must have changed a bit because we got to keep our shoes & coats on, we didn’t have to take stuff out of our bags (like laptops & such), and we simply walked through the normal detector. It was crazy nice and super fast!
We got to the gate, sat down, and 5 minutes later our flight began to board.
The first flight she slept the entire time in the Ergo (she sucked on the binkie during take-off & landing & I ate an apple the size of her head).
And boy was the landing horrendous! I thought the plane was gonna flip over & we were going to die. It was SO turbulent.
Darn you mountains. 😉
Flying from SLC to Denver is always such a treat in that way….gorgeous but dude, you pay for it in turbulence.
Lily must have Jared’s genes for that though, she simply slept through it all. I was near barfing by that point, and she & Jared were just chillin’.
We then literally ran to the second flight, and pretty much walked right on board since it was our group that was finishing boarding. Whew!
My water bottle ended up leaking through my bag, so that was quite the ordeal once we sat down & tried to dry some things off (luckily my laptop was in its case & just fine), but it was kinda annoying.
Oh well, if that is all the ‘bad’ that happened to us, we definitely counted our lucky stars!
Lily ended up waking up as the plane was about to leave (and we were finishing dealing with the wet bag), so I fed her during take-off.
She played, burped, chilled, and ate again before falling back asleep, where she stayed the entire rest of the flight & landing (sucked on binkie again during landing into StL).
We Jared got our bags from baggage claim and met my mom & sister at passenger pick-up. We strapped Lily into her car seat (from the Ergo), and home we went.
Wahoo! Baby Lily was such a champ for her first plane flight (s), and she is loving being in StL around tons of family.
They all adore her (duh!), and it feels sooooo nice to be home for the holidays. <3
I can’t wait till more of my siblings arrive-the party really kicks off tomorrow when a sister arrives, and the rest follow Friday & Saturday & next week. Wahoo!
- I am thankful for a pretty seamless trip home!
- I am super grateful for a little sis who let me borrow a sweater last night when Lily decided to majorly spit up on me!
- I am thankful for a warm, comfy bed to sleep in.
Have a WONDERFUL day!
Tonight we get to see Linz for dinner!!! Baby Lily can’t wait to meet her
Do YOU enjoy turbulence on a plane?!? What drink do YOU usually get on a plane flight?? Have YOU ever flown with a baby before–how did it go?? What are YOU thankful for today?!!
