Postpartum & Baby: 6 Weeks

Hiii you guys!

How is your week treating you?

Yesterday was a winter wonderland again, so driving in it was super fun…..not. Luckily the sun came out strong while I was teaching so on the way home it was a much nicer ride.

I sure do love staring at the gorgeous snow-capped mountains though.

Speaking of awesomeness, here is a (short) recap of 6 weeks!

(See what I did there?) hah.

I figured 6 weeks was kind of a big milestone for us both, so I’d do the update, but from here on out we’ll just do monthly updates. Sorry if I bore you to tears. :/ I am secretly nosy so I figure there’s gotta be someone else who is nosy too and wants to actually read these things?

{Check out the older ones to see the changes!}

Postpartum & Baby: 1 Week

Postpartum & Baby: 1 Month

Postpartum & Baby: 6 Weeks {Body, Mind, Baby}

I feel great! Being able to do my HIIT workouts, teach, and babysit all make me so thankful for such a strong, healthy body. I feel like my recovery has been really quick-not sure if it’s genes, working out during pregnancy, natural birth, or what, but I am grateful I am bouncing back so quickly.

I went to my 6-week postpartum check up at 5.5 weeks, but don’t tell 😉 (my doc had to go out of town), and I found out I am all healed up, and was 10 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Interesting. I was closer than I thought.

Weight to me matters zilcho….but I feel like I am 20 pounds of muscle away from where I was. hah.

Seriously though, teaching BP at lower weights than I am used to (near where I ended when I was pregnant), has been humbbbbbbling. I’ve got some work to do, my friends.

And guess what? I LOVE IT. I thrive on a challenge, so

Teaching CXWORX is kicking my butt (and core). And 45 minutes of Zumba feels plenty….but I have to do 15 more minutes. So yah, my body feels generally awesome (still wider middle and some jiggle though), but my fitness level needs worrrrrrkkkk to get back to where I was before pregnancy.

Which just goes to show that body weight doesn’t really matter all that much (only 10 pounds to go), as my jeans/clothes fit, but my core and muscles still need mayjAH work.

postpartum: 6 weeks postpartum: 6 weeks

I guess I look more like ‘myself’ now at 6 weeks, but I’m (obviously) not yet where I want to be.

Bring on the muscles, definition, and stronger core please!

However, I know that only comes with time & hard work, so I am all signed up for both.

I feel like in the past 2 weeks since the last update my mind has been allll over the place.

I love seeing Lily ‘grow’ up a bit, but it also makes me sad. I love being able to take her places with me now, but I also miss our time where we had nothing on the agenda & just chilled at home (which we still do plenty of, don’t get me wrong, but it is less time of that).

So of course those conflicting emotions coupled with being a new mama and you’ve got yourself a nice set of waterworks. (see exhibit yesterday’s post. hah)

I’ve definitely cried more in these 2 weeks than I had in any other section of 2 weeks, and I’m not sure why? I can’t pinpoint a certain reason as to why that’s happening, but I am sure hormones have something to do with it. 😉

I love being a mama more than I ever even realized! It’s cool how my heart & love has just grown even more. It is the best to be a mom to Lily!

newborn 6 weeks postpartum

Lily just turned 6 weeks old! Crazyness.

6 weeks newborn

Her personality is starting to really come out, and boy is she darling!

And yet such a stinker at times too. :/

She’s also really long. She is wearing 3 months clothes comfortably (and has been for quite some time now), and grew out of all her newborn clothes that had feet by 2 weeks old.

She is a really long baby (as you can see above), and is just over 23.5 inches (by my measurements a day ago).

She is still a very calm baby generally, with some screams & yelps when she is really hungry or really tired. She is not a baby who just fusses or cries for no reason at all.

Except sometimes I don’t know the reason….which makes for some fun hours in the night.

She doesn’t seem to like bedtime…..which we’re trying to change!

We’ve slowly begun to move her bedtime up from 11pm/12am ish to 9/10ish. She’s done better with that too, I think, with less small wakeups in the night. However, Saturday night she didn’t want to go BACK to bed after she awoke around midnight. No idea why though, it just sucked.

With babies they seem to do well with something and then BAMM. They surprise you with something fun like random midnight crying or something. Luckily it seems to be just a random thing that happens once in awhile & not a regular occurrence.

newborn 6 weeks

When she sleeps she sleeps really well, and is regularly sleeping in 6-6.5 hour stretches most nights. This makes me happy! I just wish her stretches would become more normalized to when I like to be in bed. 😉 But that will come in time!

Also, we think her projectile barfing issues are starting to go away/normalize. Or at least I’ve become smarter.

Because of my over-abundance milk supply issues, when I thought she hadn’t had enough to eat (and she really had), she simply barfed up all the extra. As I’ve become smarter, I’ve stopped trying to get her to eat, eat, eat, and let her call the shots, and she’s thrown up less. Wahoo! Also, I try to nurse only on one side, let her play for a bit, and then nurse on the other side. It works so much better than nursing back to back!

She’s obviously still a fantastic eater, loves bright colors, seems to like the huge bows I stick on her head, and totally loves to hear my laugh and voice.

newborn 6 weeks

baby Lily likes:

  • her swing
  • being ‘held’ in the Ergo while the adult carrying her is moving
  • being held
  • being snuggled
  • eating alllll the milk!!
  • sleeping (especially on her side and it seems her stomach too…..)
  • kisses from us
  • dancing around the room in my arms
  • my singing (she’s like the only person in the world who does…)
  • my voice in general
  • showering with one of us
  • her binky (when she doesn’t gag on it)

baby Lily does not like:

  • her arms being swaddled by her side (straight jacketed)
  • sleeping on her back
  • baths
  • being put down when she is napping or asleep (so moving her is tricckkkyy)
  • cold hands
  • startling loud noises
  • waiting to eat
  • just sitting in her carseat if she’s awake (the car must be moving and/or she has to be asleep to like the carseat)
  • taking a bottle <–but has gotten so much better

She is such a joy and I love having her in my life! She really is a doll that I am so very thankful for. With all the ups & downs, the ups FAR outweigh any of the tough moments.

But it wouldn’t be a real update if I didn’t talk about the tough stuff too. So there’s that.

newborn 6 weeks

We love you, baby Lily! <3

Alright, I am off to teach early morn BP and then chill with my little squeeze.

Have a GREAT day! :)

I’m such an emotional person that I still have plenty of tears. But I think becoming a momma just naturally makes us more sappy haha! 😉

You my dear look FABulousssssssss, simply inspiring and glowy as ever. You got it back and then some, not that you lost “it” but you have gained something you didn’t have before (besides Lily) and that is a new shine and shimmer. Love it girl!!!!!
Okay, you are really making me want to work on my core. I need to do this, like for real. Especially with my back issues my core is my weakest, and is always neglected.. help! Okay I’m committing to doing some core work 2 days a week :)
    thanks girly, hugs!!! x

  16. LOOOOOOVVVVEEEEE all the pics of baby Lily. :) She is so adorable and I love her bows (even if she sticks her nose up to them. 😉 ) Her faces are so cute, especially when she tries to mimic Jared. haha! She is definitely growing up so fast!
Kuddos to you on a fast recovery. Every one of my friends that I have chatted with says that they think natural births have REALLY contributed to fast recovery and bouncing back. It is definitely a humbling experience any time you take time off body pump or lifting in general (whether pregnancy related or other). Gosh it is so hard to gain the strength back. Gah!

    • Yah, I think it did/does help. Obv it’s hard to say it def was the REASON, but I am quite positive natural childbirth is strongly correlated with quicker recovery :)

  17. You look fantastic Annette!
And Lily is just oh so adorable.
I can’t get enough of the cute photos of her.
I think it’s great you are so honest in these posts because I’m sure SO many people can relate to the feelings and emotions you’re experiencing right now! It always helps to get it out and talk about it for sure.

Lily is a cutie….and your honesty is on-par with just about everything that I felt/went through/suffered through when my kids were just babies. It’s all part of the amazing journey…which you know!! It’s amazing!!
And finally, you look AWESOME! It’s just so crazy that at 6 weeks pp you look so great!!! And I promise that the tummy tightens up again….it seems impossible but it really does :)

& my mom convinced me to put Atlas down on his stomach & it was a game changer. He started sleeping much better. The kid hates being on his back. & he’s like Lilly – if I’m wearing him I must be moving.

Guess it goes to show that how fit you are going into your pregnancy and throughout it makes a difference afterwards. Great work and keep loving that sweet little growing girl of yours! 😀
