What Working Out Does

Hi friends!

How was your Cyber Monday?!

I got a few more gifts for people on my list, so only a few more to go. Woot! I am so not about buying gifts in stores anymore, online shopping is THE way to go yo. And I’m seriously a pro at it. If you need help with it, just give me a holler.

p.s. I need some smaller gifts for Jared. Any ideas?!?

He is THE hardest person to shop for. Ever.

Probably because he is so not about gifts (he only wants things that really matter;Β clothes don’t really interest him), and the stuff he reaaaallly wants is crazy expensive & has to wait a bit. πŸ˜‰

Mac Pro anyone? For realzzz.

He pretty much told me that his Christmas present is Lily. So….. ideas for him would be fab.

Moving on to one of my favorite topics….

What Working Out Does

While reading an article, 10 Things I Want my Daughter to Know about Working OutΒ I was so nodding my head to each point!

Check these out:

what working out does

I especially love that first point-strength is awesome. It feels fantastic & it is really empowering to be able to do things yourself.

I love single handedly carrying all my groceries up 3 flights of stairs, carrying Lily for hours on end, pumping a barbell that weighs a good amount, putting my heavy carryon in the overhead compartment, and so many other things.

Being strong just feels good! And recognizing that, not taking it for granted, feels even better.

I also love that she points out that exercise is a lifestyle.Β It is not a one time thing nor does it really have a finish line….and sometimes that can be hard to swallow (hello perfectionist?! I love having things to check off), but understanding that makes life and that certain workout or sweat session much much more doable.

what working out does

Number 5 reminds me of this past week….I ‘worked out’ 1 time from Wednesday-Sunday, but I was pretty active Friday, and went on a mile-ish walk Thur & Saturday.Β

When I did each of those things they made me want to do other healthy things (i.e. drink more water, eat a salad at lunch with my pizza, stop at 1 bowl of ice cream, etc.). And I think that will be a great example to baby Lily as she grows up–having a mama who is motivated to do other healthy things after the gym too.

The rest:

You know how I love me some endorphins! They for sure are the secret to my being able to handle some situations that suck, to getting housework done, to not losing my sanity, and to being able to sleep crazy well when I do sleep. πŸ˜‰

I agree that being/feeling fit feels beautiful. And that beauty can be exuded through our personality, confidence levels, and the way we treat others. I’m pretty much saying that being fit solves the world’s problems. πŸ˜‰

I think you (and I) get the gist here.

Working out does SO much for us and for those we love.

Give yourself that gift this holiday season! Don’t slack on those workouts, people.

I am off to teach some early a.m. BodyPUMP and then I need to finish putting up some Christmas decorations! Word on the street is that it’s going to snow…..what a nice backdrop to get those decorations up, eh?

Have a GREAT day!

What does working out do for YOU??! What kind of exercise have YOU been enjoying lately?! Any good Cyber deals YOU scored?!

  1. ok so since chanukah is 8 nights obviously jonny and i do a bunch of little gifts… i’ve gotten him fun flavors of coffee, other fun foodie items (thank you trader joe’s!), random non-exciting stuff that only married couples would get each other lol (underwear & socks), a 365 day rip off calendar of sports trivia, a new miami tervis cup… maybe something along those lines??

i love #8! if you feel beautiful, you look beautiful! amen! that’s pretty much what my post is all about today!

  2. I agree with all of those! Exercise definitely gives me energy and confidence! I also think it keeps me healthy overall because the more likely I exercise, the healthier good choices I make and the more / better sleep I get!

  3. OK, so I tried to comment before, but for some reason it didn’t go through…

Anyways, are you surprised that Cody sounds JUST like Jared when it comes to gifts?! Ahhh he’s really the most difficult person ever to shop for. Initially he told me he just wanted Cabela’s gift cards to go toward a new shot gun, but I thought that was too boring so I refused. But at this point, I think I’m just going to give in because I have no idea as to what to get him. Plus, I really want him to LIKE his gift… Boys! :)

Great post re: working out too! Love it!

  4. Your comments are freaking out! My post got eaten :(

Anyway, I always get Christian something I know he uses- just an updated version (aka a Sounders FC “professional mug”, a stainless steel engraved guitar pick, etc). I can write that here cause there’s no way he’ll ever read it. Haha! Men are SO hard to buy for!!

  5. Brandon’s wish list is always filled with expensive things, too. Expensive watches, cars (not that he really wants me to buy these things for him, but they’re just things he desires!), etc. I bought him tickets to the Masters as a birthday/Christmas gift. It cost about $400 just to go to the PRACTICE rounds! You can’t even buy tickets for the actual Masters … you have to do some type of lottery system. Insane!

Working out keeps me SANE! I definitely feel “off” if I haven’t worked out for more than two days.
As for Jared’s gifts…..hmmm….Usually Groupon has “experience” type gifts that you can purchase (like driving a race car or heli-skiing)….might those be something you can get for him?

My husband is super hard to shop for as well. Hes a guitarist and in the same boat as your husband where all the things he wants are super expensive.

I highly recommend the art of Manliness website, they always do a holiday gift guide and have some really neat stuff for manly men. http://www.artofmanliness.com/2013/11/29/art-of-manliness-holiday-gift-guide-2013/

Huckberry is also great https://secure.huckberry.com/store/huckberry-general-store and so is Kaufmann Mercantile http://kaufmann-mercantile.com/

    Hopefully those help!

  9. These are all fabulous reasons to workout! Your point about carrying heavy things cracked me up… One of my pet peeves is people who can’t lift their own suitcases into airplane overhead compartments! I say if you can’t lift it, you can’t bring it πŸ˜‰ More motivation to lift weights!

  11. Great post! I always love your outlook. :)
I have no idea when it comes to gifts. I can only think of small things I usually add to stockings (toothbrush, favorite gum, socks, underwear, new headphones, fit bit?) My husband wants an electric hedge trimmer…..that is NOT going in his stocking πŸ˜‰
Endorphins do WONDERS for the mood! If I am having a crappy day, let me workout and I’m instantly a new person. Maybe that’s why I am a morning workout person? Sets the tone for the day.
Keep the baby Lily pics coming…esp on instagram. She is SO darn adorable!

  12. ohhhh yes there is a reason that I have loved it for so many years now and I think you hit on a bunch of them…but the feel good factor from the hormones to the pride that’s my biggest one!

  13. Lately, my exercise of choice is Flywheel. However, I did run a half marathon last sunday….but I before that I hadn’t gone running in a month. I was surprised at how spinning helped keep my endurance level high! High five to that! I want to start doing barre classes at Flywheel too, and possibly get back into Pump! I am a terrible Xmas shopper! I never know what to get!

  16. Love this! I feel so much better about myself and I make better choices when I’m active. As far as Christmas goes… Luvy is just as hard to shop for! We have started not buying anything then going shopping together for things we want after the holidays. We don’t have Christmas here at home, we are always on the road in TN so it doesn’t matter that we don’t have presents to open.
