Embrace the Greens

Hi there.

How’s it going?

Things are good around here….I’m kind of sleep deprived, but what is new? I have a newborn, so that’s how it’s going to be for a bit. :/

I love my sleep, but Lily is definitely worth getting up for! She actually sleeps well for the most part, but some nights are better than others.

Also, she had another throw-up attack yesterday. Yikes! So this outfit:

embrace the greens

was worn for like 5 minutes.

Such is life!

We also took a walk, went to the library, and sat out on the patio because the weather was gorgeous yesterday. We had a good day together!

And then Jared came home to us chillin’ on the bed, so he held her while we chatted about our days…..then this happened:

embrace the greens

p.s. thanks for all the support on yesterday’s post. I didn’t want to come off as complaining (because I love having a newborn & being a new mama), but I also want to be honest with myself & ya all. :)

Embrace the Greens

So there were TWO time periods during the pregnancy where I hated allllll the greens. Spinach, kale, lettuce, etc. all sounded so so gross to me. No salads, no green smoothies, no broccoli side dishes. For several WEEKS.

This was weird for me because I’ve always (in my adult life) loved allll the greens. And it was sad. And it made me feel bad about my eating habits.

Well people, the greens have returned! And I am loving them.

embrace the greens

We’ve had a salad at every dinner meal since Lily was born, and Jared & I feel awesome.

Here are some easy ways to embrace the greens:

  • have a side salad at dinner
  • make a large salad with fun toppings for a lunch
  • add steamed broccoli to any pasta
  • drink a spinach smoothie for a snack
  • prewash & cut the greens so they are easy to grab for any meal or snack

embrace the greens

  • make ants on a log with celery, craisins, & almond butter for an easy snack
  • go to the grocery store weekly so you have fresh greens on hand
  • stuff spinach in your mouth before you eat anything else (hahaha)
  • order a side salad instead of fries at a restaurant
  • plan side dishes to include greens (kale salad, broccoli slaw)
  • include greens in the main meal (lettuce wraps, spinach quesadillas, kale soup)

embrace the greens

When asked for good ideas on how to embrace the greens Jared mentioned putting spinach in your ice cream…..

I guess that could work?

But I think my ideas are better. 😉

Have a WONDERFUL Wednesday! <3

What are some ways YOU embrace the greens on a daily basis???! What do YOU love to top YOUR salads with???! Last time YOU fell asleep with a baby on YOUR lap??! 😉

I don’t embrae greens daily, but I should, and would like to. Maybe a new dietary goal?! I love bacon bits and egg in my salad..and artichoke hearts, feta…onions..mmmmyum.

I’ve never fallen asleep with a baby on my lap. Except maybe a baby kitten or puppy, but guess that doesn’t count here :( but it was still heartwarming!

  3. New moms need time to vent about how tired they are! Never apologize. I feel sort of relieved/blessed that I didn’t have any food aversions while preggers. Glad the greens are back

  4. I would have thought that once the weather turned cold I’d have absolutely no desire for veggies (it’s what usually happens) but nope – I’ve been having a salad for lunch or as part of lunch most days!

  6. I love starting out my day with greens so that I’m guaranteed every meal has them. I usually have eggs with kale/spinach/swiss chard/etc or a side salad with my breakfast. I used to think salad for breakfast was weird, but now I can’t imagine it any other way!

  7. I love to eat salads and throw about 4 cups of spinach in a smoothie. I also went through rough phases with veggies when I was pregnant. I used to love steamed zucchini and the moment I find out I was pregnant that went out the window and I still (8 months later) haven’t resumed my love for it. I would get mad at my husband when he cooked it haha.

  8. SMOOTHIES!!! My favorite way to get my greens in each day 😉 I can’t say that I’ve ever fallen asleep with a baby in my lap but I’m sure it’ll happen in the future 😉

  9. I’m at 29 weeks and greens have been on and off…no greens could be stomached for most of the first trimester (except green skittles and sourpatch kids lol) but now i’ve been able to incorporate them…mostly broccoli and shredded salad greens (easier to get down) and also asparagus…feta cheese really helps, and so does asian style salad dressings. also apples. lots of apples :)

  10. I haven’t been loving salads lately for whatever reason. They just seem like so much work! Ha! So I’ve been getting my greens in with smoothies and soups – it does the trick!

It’s rare the Hunter falls asleep on me anymore… He’s a little wiggle worm! So on the rare occasion it does happen, I embrace it!

Maybe Jared is on to something with the greens and ice cream? You know how we all stick spinach in smoothies? Why not add frozen spinach to vanilla ice cream with some peppermint extract and a splash of milk. Whirl in the blender, sprinkle with chocolate chips and voila…. mint chocolate chip flurry/blizzard complete with greens. 😉 I would try it!

Mommy hood sounds like it is rocking with you. Not that any of us had a doubt that you would be awesome! Loving the baby pics too.

I had a salad last week topped with goat cheese, peanuts & pears. It was delicious!

& I couldn’t eat greens during my entire 1st trimester. The thought of them made me sick! I had spinach with my dinner tonight though – my love for greens thankfully came back.
