CXWORX Release 12 Review

Hey, hey.

1. Can we talk about how delicious my whole wheat pumpkin bread is??! (it’s a version of this recipe)

Like dang. It is reallllly good.

I made whole wheat pumpkin bread, whole wheat pumpkin bread with chocolate chips, and whole wheat pumpkin muffins.

I opened the first can of the season the other night, and went to town in the baking dept. It felt really good to do that!

And tasted even better once I was done. ;)

2. Also, here’s a short article about the research that they’ve found on how length of pregnancy can vary up to 5 weeks! Yah so that due date of mine (2 days away)? It’s actually a due month-ish…..so technically I could have until Oct 26th. Yikes.

3. Not to talk too much about it or anything (hah!), but my friend who was due the SAME day as me had her baby Tuesday night. It is a girl (they waited to find out), and she is adorable! :)

So yah. There’s that.

I am so happy for her!! But it makes me reaaaalllllyy want to meet my lil’ one so dang soon!

4. I know that I just posted another Les Mills review, but I wanted to make sure I posted about them before anything too cray changes around here. ;)

And, I freaking love this CX release. It’s a reallllly good one, so I wanted to post my thoughts on it while it was fresh. And, p.s. -I so can not wait to do it when I’m not pregnant–then I can do it all full out!

CXWORX Release 12 Review

Track 1- Warmup. Song: “Stronger” Like all quality fitness classes, the warmup is first. I like that it’s a shorter warmup with simple moves. It is just a way to get the participants to recognize what ‘bracing your abs’ feels like, what it means to keep your lower back pressing towards the floor, and keeping a light touch of fingertips on the temples in any kind of crunches while doing a few moves. These elements are key to a good core training, so it’s important to set that up right away! We do a variety of moves- leg lifts, leg lifts with a twist crunch, pulse crunches, c-crunches, & bridges. It’s a fun, upbeat song that I love & it sets the mood perfectly.

Track 2- Core Strength 1. Song: “Un Deux Trois” The 2nd track begins right away with a leg combo & then added crunch. Because of the use of stability during those moves it helps to train the mobility needed when keeping the core strong.  This track is also known as the ‘hover’ or ‘plank’ track–simply because we do a LOT of hovers & planks (a hover is a plank on your elbows). We do walking hovers to plank & lateral walking planks.  Yowzers! Those are extremely challenging because the core has to stay stabilized & strong throughout the movements of the ups, downs, and laterals. The combo of the two is great as well! We return to the leg sequence with a crunch (and added plate, if desired), and then to walking hovers with a leg lift. This one is a slow burning one, but it is super great! Don’t necessarily love the song, but it works.  Option: extending legs lower in the leg combo; use of plate in the crunch

Track 3- Standing Strength 1. Song: “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” This is the first track of the release in which you stand–this track trains the cross links of the body (the twisting motions that we experience), and is quite the functional training track. It also combines dynamic strength with isometric holds (balancing) so it’s crazy challenging! In this one we use the resistance tube (they are graded by color-so you can choose how hard it is). The song has pretty catchy lyrics & a good beat, so it’s a fun one to be facing your class with!  We start with resisted lunges & power skiers, and go into that hold move-the airplane balance with a side raise. Majorly tough combo!  We do both sides & then move into squats (with tube or plate) with a side twist. Once again using the idea of core work with stability & functional training. It’s a fun track & you can definitely feel it! Option: plate or resistance tube

Track 4- Standing Strength 2. Song: “Trumpet Lights” I really like this song! The first part of the track is quite a challenge to the core, glutes, and hips. We start with standing single leg squats with added arms (rows & forward raises), with a tube under your feet & held in your hands. Both sides. Yowzers for the entire core & butt! These move challenge the core by testing our glute strength and help to improve muscle integration & movement patterns. The 2nd part of the track is resisted movements (using a tube) walking the legs out & in, extending the legs, and walking a squat pattern to the left & right. This one burns! Option: tube OR no tube/just body weight

Track 5- Core Strength 2. Song: “My Eyes” This track is on the floor/mat again–targeting the obliques. I think the song is perfect for the track, but it’s not necessarily a song I’d choose to listen to, but the track overall is pretty wicked. We start with knee drops to both sides, and then add the extension -challenging the entire core & especially the obliques. The second half we work in the side hover rotation combo-ed with isolated hip lifts. 8 TIMES. Yowch. During that part I face everyone & it is oddly kinda fun to watch their faces grimace, their sweat drip, and their resolve deepen. It is a tough track where you must decide you’re stronger than you thought & go for it! (I can’t wait to do this track full out–right now, I use the knee option in the side hover.) Option: 1 knee down in the side hover

track 6- Core Strength 3. Song: “Suit & Tie” A catchy tune but not necessarily my fave. It’s sort of a boring track, but it definitely works the core stabilizers. We start in horse stance & begin with leg extensions. We then add on diagonal movement patterns & an option not to tap the foot down & to raise the arm (increasing the load on the abdominal wall & back muscles). It also creates some nice work for the hips and glutes! The second half we use the resistance tube and work our postural muscles-we do reverse flies and pull downs. An okay track, but not my fave. Option: tube folded in half or not

note: there are also 3 extra tracks to switch it up for class (along with the other releases I have), but I have not done those yet, so will not review them.

Once again, a great overall release! I can not wait to do it full out soon. I know CXWORX will be key to my recovery and helping my abdominals & core get strong again after having had a baby. It’s gonna be a fun ride!

Thankful Thursday

  1. I am grateful for beautiful fall mornings. I love that time of the day when it’s a tad bit chilly & the sun is peeking up over the mountains.
  2. I am super thankful for the modern convenience (in this country) of clean, running water. I know that is random, but I was just thinking about how grateful I am for it!
  3. I am thankful for the blessing of having awesome siblings!

  3. They don’t like keeping the baby in the womb much past 42 weeks- the baby keeps growing which can cause for a difficult delivery and sometimes the baby starts showing stress. Plus, most babies are ready to come before 45 weeks ;) I love pumpkin bread!! My mom sends it in every care package!

  4. I have the same can of pumpkin that I just opened (and only used a smidge of!) yesterday….I’m looking for something yum to make so I can use it up!! Maybe a pumpkin loaf is in my future :)
    Oh, and I know when you’re pregnant and you have a “due date” and every revolves around that date, but as you now know, it isn’t an exact thing…more of a general time frame…which is hard when you’re counting down the days until you meet your little sweetie! :)

  11. My gym has all Les Mills classes, which I love! I really enjoy their BodyFlow class. So exciting about baby- it’s SO close. I am 25 weeks and I am beyond excited to meet our little man:)
