38 Weeks {Arrival, When?}

Hiiiiiii friends!

Welcome to OCTOBER.

My baby is DUE THIS MONTH. Like next week, actually. Yowzers.

First of all, many of you asked about how my BodyPUMP/CXWORX class went, since I asked for good luck vibes with the new releases & choreo.

They went pretty well! I didn’t mess up at all in BP, but in CX I counted off twice…1 time was not noticeable (I knew it, they didn’t) but another time def was. So I laughed it off with my awesome members and blamed it on the baby & the baby brain. They thought that was hilarious. (Thanks for the idea, Carly!)

Hey, we’re all human right?! And to be quite honest, I was not as ready as I could’ve been, so I am lucky I only missed 2 cues! The life of being a fitness instructor. 😉

Second of all, last night was our 3rd of 4 Hypnobirthing classes. (Who knows if we’ll make it to the 4th!? hah) I am always SO tired when we finally go at the end of the day, that I can relax & practically fall asleep each time we practice. Hopefully I can keep that momentum of being so relaxed during the actual birthing. 😉

And now….it’s time for the update. Lots of fun info from my appt in it, so enjoy!

38 Weeks / Pregnancy Update

Baby Perks is just over 38 weeks today and is about the size of a pumpkin. (appropriate for this time of year, yes? My lil’ pumpkin. Awwwww}

Here’s what Baby Perks has been up to this week:

  • Baby Perks weighs about 6.8 pounds and is over 19 1/2 inches long. (yes, she is def heavier than a few weeks ago!)
  • She has a firm grasp and her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb…aka, she could come any time now. CraZy cool thought.

And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:

38 weeks / pregnancy update

How far along? 38 weeks (& 3 days)

Baby’s size? a pumpkin

Total weight gain/loss:  28 lbs. (as of last week at the appt)

Stretch marks? still zilcho so far..…fingers crossed!

Sleep: Pretty fabulous. I seriously sleep like a rock. I do get up like 3-5 times PER night to go to the bathroom, so that’s annoying. But I fall asleep way quick afterwards. I have good sleep genes I guess?

Best moment this week: The amazing BabyMoon we enjoyed over the weekend!

Miss Anything? Same ole same ole: Lying on my stomach. (I love flopping down on my belly on the bed….soon I can do that again!) Running HIIT sprints on the TM. Less bathroom trips. Being able to get out of bed or the car faster.

Movement: Yep! The movement is definitely less than before (‘settling’ in, so I’ve heard), but she has very distinct wake & sleep cycles. She is still most active at night.  She is head down & face to the back (perfect birth position), so that’s nice.

Food cravings: This week there weren’t any strong cravings at all. I eat because I need to & when I am hungry, but it’s not super exciting to me right now. I’ve eaten a lot more veggies, sweet potatoes, milk, cheese and fruit than ever before though!

38 weeks / pregnancy update 38 weeks / pregnancy update

Food aversions: Nothing really. (yay!)

Anything making you queasy or sick: I randomly felt really nauseous the other day. I am not sure why? It went away after awhile.

Gender: GIRL <3

Labor Signs: I’ve had a lot more distinct contractions at night, and more Braxton-Hicks (practice surges) throughout the day. Also the appt last week confirmed I was dilated to a 1 and 70% effaced, and that I have dropped–significantly. Her head is already at station 0 (which means she is engaged in the pelvis), so she has a shorter route when delivery comes. The nurse said 1) that my labor might be shorter than some because she’s already so low and 2) she’d be surprised if I deliver late. I totally get that it’s all subjective, but those are nice things to hear for a first-timer!

Symptoms:

  • like always…. getting up to use the restroom alllll night long.
  • practice surges (Braxton Hicks) throughout the day
  • menstrual-like cramps (I’ve heard these are contractions?)
  • appetite is not strong
  • it’s definitely hard to tie my shoelaces, shave, and get out of bed or the car
  • a bit more energy than last week, but I’ve been sleeping more lately!
  • feeling overwhelmed this week
  • lungs don’t feel as squished anymore (which further confirms that she has ‘dropped’); but I still laugh at myself whenever I go up stairs
  • some lower back pain
  • some groin pain

Belly Button in or out? OUT….mostly. The top part sticks out when I am standing.

Wedding rings on or off? On. But snug in the heat.

Maternity clothes? I wore maternity bottoms (in real clothes) for the first time this week! (I’ve mostly worn cotton skirts all summer long.) Maternity jeans are where it’s at–they’re comfy.

Baby items purchased? Nothing purchased, but we received some more awesome gifts from such amazing people in our lives. Feeling uber blessed. <3

Happy or moody most of the time: pretty happy! Though there are some tearful moments where I feel really anxious & overwhelmed. I assume that is pretty normal though?!

Funny moments this week: Jared and I both are pretty silly-esp when we’re together, so the whole weekend was just kinda fun & funny. We crack ourselves up.

Looking forward to: Actually having the hospital bag packed….we’re close! And buying a dresser. Gotta find one soon! And, well, HER COMING!

Fitness Thoughts at 38 weeks:

38 weeks / pregnancy update / fit pregnancy

{pic is from yesterday before I taught my BP/CX class}

  • This week, like last week, felt harder whilst teaching my fitness classes. Not surprising since I’m carrying a pumpkin in front of me! hah.
  • I didn’t teach my zumba class this week (we opted to head out on our BabyMoon), so that was a nice break for the body. There is a lot of bouncing involved….so I am pretty sure if she’s not here by Friday, I might bounce her right on out when I teach the class Friday! Then again, it seems to put her to sleep, so maybe I just need to be sedentary and then she’ll make her debut? Who knows.
  • I really have enjoyed lifting weights throughout the pregnancy and I am grateful for that strength. I sure could use that in birth, I suspect!
  • I don’t get as out of breath as I used to– I suspect it’s because she’s dropped….so I am grateful I don’t sound like a steam engine in the mic as much. Hah.

Arrival, When?

So I asked Jared to write a few thoughts (maybe a paragraph or so) about him becoming a dad & his watching his wife be pregnant for months….he answered quickly, and said this: “Well, I like making babies.”

Yes, don’t we all, right? 😉

So there’s that.

Jared is the amazing dude behind this site’s design & stuff, but he does not enjoy writing, and is a man of just a few words.

So let me share with you a few thoughts I’ve had lately.

I can sum it up very succinctly, actually: I AM A PLANNER and my baby girl’s arrival is something I CAN NOT plan, so I am driving myself completely bonkers. Her arrival, WHEN?!?! And how will I KNOW it’s begun?!?

Annnnddd there’s that.

Help, please?! 😉

*****

Have a GREAT day! <3

What October event are YOU looking forward to?!! What is something YOU’ve driven yourself crazy about lately?!? Mamas–how/when/where did YOUR labor start?!? (I love hearing how it ‘began’!)

  7. LOL love Jared’s answer. :) I felt the same exact way you did those last few weeks. I just want to KNOW exactly when the babe’s going to come. But she’ll come when she’s good and ready! I went to the hospital to get monitored because of my high blood pressure, and they told me I’d be having a baby that day! You just never know. 😉

  10. Way to keep up on being so active. I love reading about how other moms-to-be stay active!
I’m a few weeks behind you (I’m 34 weeks) but am also starting to wonder about when and how labor will start. I’m more concerned with her size though, and I hope that she’s not too big. I was 10 lbs 9 oz. when I was born which is crazy large. So far my measurements indicate she won’t be large and my doctor assures me she’ll be average sized but I’m still slightly scared!

  11. Jared’s answer is all kinds of awesome.
And it sounds like the bodypump went well besides the two little mistakes – I think it sounds like you did amazing regardless! So congrats on that.
SO excited for you guys and your baby girl to be joining your lives so soon now!!!

  12. I still say the 6th! I was about where you are in dilation. effacement, and station at 38 weeks. Had Em at 38w5d so here’s hoping this is your last update! FYI – the lower CAN mean a faster labor. My labor from start to finish with Em was about 6 hours … WAY less than a normal first time mom!

  13. Nicole says:

Congrats on making it through BP! I flubbed up on the chest track on my first day….like, it was embarrassing! (Those 11, 9, 6, and 5 counts just didn’t sink into my brain! Oh Pitbull!)

October is BIRTHDAY MONTH!! Mine is on the 19th, my Dad is the 21st…..and I have six friends all with October birthdays. Lots of celebrating to do. Your little girl is in good company with an October birthday, if I do say so myself! 😉

  14. Just dont get too caught up in the nurse telling you that you wont go late. My OB told me at my 37 week apt theres no way I wouldn’t make it to the next weeks appointment because I was 3 cm, 75%, and at a negative station! She told me that at my 38, 39, and 40 week apt too! I got induced overdue BUT it was a super fast labor, 2.5 hours start to finish. With my second I was asleep at 6 am, woke up from a light contraction and was holding my baby an hour and 45 minutes later. I was 4 cm with her for a month before I had her. Then I have friends who aren’t dilated at all and go into labor the next day. But their labors are much longer. Some people wait until they have contractions for an hour 5 minutes apart or something like that. I feel a contraction, I rush to the hospital. I was only there 15 minutes with my second before I had her.

    • I appreciate your comment so much! It’s nice to remember that everyone has their own story–so I thank you for that reminder 😉

  15. I was in the exact same boat as you 12 weeks ago (my baby is 11 weeks today!). My doctor said he would come early, which I had been secretly thinking since around 24 weeks. Well, when the day that I THOUGHT he might come came and went…I started going crazy. He was still a few days early, but, if I could tell myself one thing back then: sit back, relax, and enjoy this time. It will never be the same. Sleep, sleep, sleep, but mostly importantly, spend as much quality time with your husband as humanly possible. My husband and I did that from 6 months on, and it is still our favorite time together ever!

I’ve been following your blog for awhile now, but haven’t posted a comment yet. I’m 39 weeks (tomorrow) with my first! It’s exciting to follow someone else’s pregnancy journey! I’m a BodyStep instructor, although I stopped teaching it about a month ago- a little too jarring for me (and I couldn’t make it through the hour without having to use the bathroom!). I’m still taking BodyPump and Zumba though, so I love your fitness updates! I’m interested to know how you’ve had to modify Pump to fit your changing body? I, for one, haven’t increased my weight at all for the past 6 months or so. Also, I’m now using dumb bells for the chest and tricep tracks b/c it’s hard to put the bar on the floor and get up off the bench! :-) I hope you are able to teach right up to your delivery day! Thanks for the inspiration!

  18. Yup period cramps (the worst ones I’ve ever felt) are what labor contractions felt like to me… I guess that’s the best way to describe them. Hunter was face up so I had a ton of back labor – no fun. My water broke and about an hour after that, while we were walking, the contractions started! It was obvious, no guessing there. I’m so excited for you! You’re going to be holding your little girl in your arms so soon :)
