35 Weeks {Postpartum Fitness Plan}

Hey friends!

What’s up?

Not too much here. Just ya know, getting CLOSER to baby Perks’ due date. No biggie. ;)

****

Seriously. 5 weeks until her due date. Yowzers.

p.s. can we talk about how I’ve done nothing in her room for the past 3 weeks? awesome sauce. Procrastination is apparently happening over here….

Ahh well it’ll get done soon enough. Or I’ll just make Jared do it all…..Yah, that sounds like a grand plan. ;)

35 Weeks / Pregnancy Update

Baby Perks is just over 35 weeks today and is about the size of a honeydew melon.

Here’s what Baby Perks has been up to this week:

  • Baby Perks doesn’t have much room to maneuver now that she’s over 18 inches long and weighs about 5 1/4 pounds. (yes, and I can tell)
  • Her kidneys are fully developed now, and her liver can process some waste products.
  • Most of her basic physical development is now complete — she’ll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:

35 weeks / pregnancy update

How far along? 35 weeks (& 3 days)

Baby’s size? honeydew melon

Total weight gain/loss: 21 lbs (or so I thought–I simply add on from the previous appt, but don’t look at the actual number). Buttttt my calculations were off– my doc said it’s 25 lbs– so I’ll take that one! But like Ash said, who gives a shiz? I could care less what the amount is, as long as she’s growing well!

Stretch marks? still zero so far..…I’ve been rubbing belly cream on it, so I guess it is helping so far!

Sleep: Pretty good for the most part. There were 2 nights where I couldn’t fall asleep super quick once I had gotten up to use the bathroom. And another night where I swear I didn’t sleep a wink. But overall I feel lucky in the sleep department.

Best moment this week: Spending the weekend doing manly & girly stuff with Jared, friends, and family!

Miss Anything? Same ole: Lying on my stomach. Super intense workouts (I can’t wait to do HIIT runs on the TM again!). Not having my lower back hurt randomly. Less bathroom trips. And ooooh how I wish I had a really good appetite again. Food seems less fun nowadays.

Movement: Tons! And her punches/kicks are getting super powerful. And my ribs might be bruised…I swear, she kicks her little feet so far up there. Major ouch!

Food cravings: This week I didn’t really have strong cravings. And I didn’t want to cook or eat anything super specific. I ate a bunch of non-green vegetable foods though, since green veggies had been making me nauseated and yarfing again this past week. (sad face) Slurpees made an appearance again. As did caramel ice cream.

Food aversions: Sadly….green veggies. No salads for me for awhile!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Salads & green smoothies still. And sometimes waking up in the morning I don’t feel so awesome.

Gender: GIRL <3

Labor Signs: None. But I’m pretty sure I had some uterine surges the other evening.

Symptoms:

  • like the previous 3 weeks…. getting up to go to the bathroom allllll night long. It’s so annoying and I am really over it. Like why can’t my bladder hold more?? hah.
  • eating constantly-and feeling really hungry in the morning
  • but not having much of an appetite for anything (and this means I cook less….sorry Jared)
  • practice uterine surges (aka contractions) happened once
  • it’s definitely getting harder to get out of bed in a normal way!
  • wanting to lie down instead of sit up–sitting is still the worst because she gets her cute feet up in my ribs. OUCH! And lying down is always amazing. Ahhhhhh
  • lungs are squished & breathing is harder when going up stairs. haha. Like my heart rate gets up real high & I’m huffing & puffing. Luckily our neighbors are never around when I’m going up the stairs, or else they’d mistake me for a steam engine.
  • some groin pain

Belly Button in or out? OUT….mostly. The top part sticks out some now when I am standing! SO crazy.

Wedding rings on or off? On.

Maternity clothes? Nothing new.

Baby items purchased? Nada this week.

Happy or moody most of the time: pretty happy! I didn’t cry much this week, but oh man did I have a day where I felt I was losing it and was allll over the place–angry. sad. happy. ecstatic. moody. and tired. It was caaaarazzzy.

Funny moments this week: Watching Jared do the man games. Me & baby girl had a blast cheering him on!

Looking forward to: My baby shower this weekend! And going to another doc appt to see her on an ultrasound!

Fitness Thoughts at 35 weeks:

{pics are from yesterday before/after I taught my BP/CX class}

  • This week I felt pretty good while teaching my fitness classes, but dangggg I am tired. Like woah. It’s also getting harder & harder to grab my weights, talk, prep the class for the next move, etc, simply because I am getting bigger.
  • I am drinking a ton of water, but I sometimes don’t feel totally hydrated, so I am working on that!
  • I have some groin pain, so that’s not super fun, and is why I subbed out my Zumba class last week. Other than that, I don’t have any pain associated with fitness classes.
  • I do get sore in my muscles easily lately though….and I’m lifting a bit less weight than I used to while teaching BodyPump.
  • I love teaching fitness classes & plan to do it up until I birth Baby Perks! Those endorphins that I feel and the fun I have are making my pregnancy feel (overall) awesome. I honestly am so glad I’ve been lucky enough to be able to have a ‘fit’ pregnancy so far!

Postpartum Fitness Plan

Speaking of fitness….let’s chat about my postpartum fitness plan.

Or lack of a plan thereof. Hah.

What I mean is this: I don’t have a certain FIXED plan, but I am definitely going to plan on getting fitter & stronger than I am now, once baby girl has arrived & is happy/healthy, and I am cleared for the go ahead (p.s. that clearance might be less time or more depending on how the birth/recovery goes).

Right now I teach a fitness class (1 hour) every day Mon-Fri. (Yes, I am crazy. Got it.) I sometimes sub on Saturdays and I always take Sunday off as a complete rest day. I often have things come up and/or travel and then I teach/workout less-so there are ebbs & flows in there, but for the majority of my pregnancy (after 17 weeks), this is what I’ve done.

And to be completely honest with you all, this has been perfect for me. I have a lot of energy generally, and I love to teach fitness classes, so it hasn’t seemed annoying or a bother or too stressful. I do get tired easier though, and by the end of the evening classes I teach, I am donezo.

So I am stoked to get some energy back & to maybe teach a bit more postpartum! We shall see.

I am also hoping to coach some GRIT classes again, do some HIIT runs on the TM (ahhhh can’t wait!!), and yes, possibly train for a race or two. Who knows?

All I know is that I love being pregnant with Baby Perks! ….But I am also excited for the time when I can push my fitness levels again–that feeling is super fun to me!

And who knows just ‘when’ I’ll be able to do that, but I for sure know I am not pushing any time tables or am in any hurry. I’ve heard way too many horror stories of people jumping back in too crazy & gung ho too soon after birth, and getting injured….so yah. I am not doing that! (honesty 101: I am saying this because I am reminding myself that I don’t want that to happen to me….I tend to be a bit overzealous. hah!)

But I will definitely be as active as my body and doc think I can be once the recovery period has passed.

So the plan….yah. That plan is to take it easy for a bit, try teaching out again a few weeks after birth, and then go from there! But I can assure you, once I feel great and am recovered, my fitness level better WATCH out. Because I am coming after it! ;)

*****

Alright people, I am off to teach an early morning BodyPUMP class (speaking of…hah), and then am off to the airport! I have a work conference in OH to attend for the next 3 days. Wahoo!

have a GREAT day!! <3

What is YOUR fitness plan right now??! Any thoughts on postpartum fitness??! What is something fun YOU are looking forward to this week??!

  1. ah your belly button really is popping! so cute!! you are ALL belly!! and i can’t believe how much you’re still teaching – well actually i can believe it and am not really surprised at all haha

  2. You look great, and I’m so glad you’re still feeling and sleeping well… at least as well as can be expected. You’ll have no trouble getting back in shape!

She’ll be here before ya know it. Just think of all those snuggles you’re going to get!

  3. Oh goodness, I can’t believe you’re only 5 weeks away! I actually don’t have much of a fitness plan right now – I’ve been taking it easy the last week and a half or so. I am planning on joining a gym again next week, so hopefully that will get me figuring out a plan!

  4. Don’t stress too much about the room…most babes don’t sleep in their room for a while! Yall will get it done! You look fantastic. I think its awesome that you’ve been so active- I was the same way and I think it made recovery easier.

  5. I think the best thing for me for exercise post-partum was to not have any expectations for the first few months. I started running at 2 weeks post partum, but took it slow. . . and built back up from there. Now, I think I am faster and stronger than before I had Luke <– now that's awesome! :) How is teaching BP going with the growing belly? Any trouble with clean and presses?

I love your attitude and your loving energy/spirit! The best plan is just like you said, what works for you :) Loving yourself and being totally there for you and baby Perks are all that matters. You are so great at listening to your body, you have truly been a shining star of inspiration (to those that haven’t gone through this and have fears/doubts… lol) during your whole pregnancy. You just GLOW and radiate with joy and love and happy energy, this is all you need to carry you through now and forever! I can’t wait to share your journey with you as embark on the next chapter ahead, and I know you will rock it no matter what. Fo sho!!!!
    xoxox

  7. I absolutely love your “plan” and attitude with it. You are a great example of what healthy is – just one of the many things I love about you! ;) Wish I could be at your shower this weekend!!

  8. I think it’s awesome you’re still teaching so much! I mean hey…if you can still do it, then why not! I hurt my foot so for the time being, my fitness routine had to change. I miss my Zumba classes like crazy! So, to ease up on my foot, I’ve been doing lots of pilates exercises and some upper body strength training.

  9. Can’t believe how close you are getting now! So crazy to me! But, probably more so for you;)
I think it’s great you’re still teaching so much – I think whatever works for you!
It’s awesome to see your attitude with everything. And right now I don’t really have a fitness plan – just working on teaching more and possibly getting certified in barre now as well.

  10. Wow good for you for listening to your body and doing what feels right for you in your pregnancy! I am sure the baby enjoys all the fell-good endorphins :)

  11. Love that you are sharing so many good tips to help others through the fitness and pregnancy! Gave you a shout out today :)

  12. Don’t laugh but… my tummy looks like yours when I eat too much! Ha ha! #truth – OKAY I guess you can laugh!

  13. So glad I found your blog – I’m a few weeks behind you (31 weeks tomorrow!) and also trying to stay active for as long as possible (only non-impact activities though – I sadly gave up running until after baby). I’ve recently been daydreaming about my post-pregnancy fitness plans too. I’m trying not to get too eager so that I don’t wind up injured.
Way to keep up your exercise and teaching – it’ll make for a much easier post-partum recovery!

  14. You are absolutely the cutest!! And you make me want to come over so I can take a class taught by you :)

  15. Getting SO CLOSE! I am excited for you :) I think the biggest things with postpartum fitness is just listening to YOUR body and what works for you. It took 9 months to put on right? That’s how I approached losing the baby weight from Em and will with this one too :)

  16. Wow you look amazing. I loved reading your post!
