19 Weeks {First Baby Purchase}

Hey, hey!

How are you all doing?

I am still on a BLEND Retreat 2013 high…it was just so so fabulous. And yes, another recap is on its way at some point. Promise.

But today, it’s pregnancy update time!

19 Weeks {First Baby Purchase}

Baby Perks is just over 19 weeks today and is about the size of a mango.

Here’s what else Baby Perks has been up to this week:

  • Baby Perk’s sensory development is exploding! The brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Baby Perks may even be able to hear us by now….I can only imagine how much she loves my voice by now. ;)
  • She weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom.
  • The arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of the body now.
  • Kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on the scalp is sprouting. (I can’t wait to see what color hair she has!)
  • A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on the skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:

19 weeks pregnancy

How far along? 19 weeks (& 2 days)

Baby’s size? mango

Total weight gain/loss: 5 pounds as of last checkup…. and it’s been 3 weeks, so no exact idea for right now. But probably a couple more on top of that.

Stretch marks? nada

Sleep: This week I slept awesome! However, I was too excited to sleep well at BLEND retreat-so 1 night of not much sleep occurred.

Best moment this week: Having a more legit bump! It’s so fun to actually have something to show for all that hard work my body is doing. ;)

Miss Anything? Laying on my stomach comfortably.

Movement: She is moving like crazy in there (said the tec), however, I STILL haven’t felt her yet. I’m dying to feel her move!!!!

Food cravings: Nothing too crazy this week. My appetite is pretty much back to normal! Still eating a lot & all day! I often still want the lime/lemon fruit popsicles, lemonade, salads (yay!!), and cheese. Veggies actually sound quite delicious!

Food aversions: Nothing, really. (finally)

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing! finally!

Gender: GIIIIIRRRLLLLLL!!!!! <3

Labor Signs: Obviously none.

Symptoms: Not much! This was the first week I didn’t feel pregnant (meaning, no ‘symptoms’). I felt quite normal!

Belly Button in or out? In.

Wedding rings on or off? On.

Maternity clothes? Still wearing a few tops & bras. And I bought some more items up at Park City! Still have yet to buy maternity bottoms. But I am thinking I’ll need maternity pants of some sort soon.

Baby items purchased? YES. See below.

Happy or moody most of the time: happy!! ecstatic!!

Funny moments this week: Most moments at BLEND! It was just oh so fun. I think baby girl had a blast too. :)

Looking forward to: Feeling her MOVE!!!! I am seriously dying to feel her move. (My mom always carried her babies nearer her spine–which is probably why I don’t show as early–and is probably why I haven’t felt her yet.) Although the ‘norm’ to first feel the baby is anywhere between 16-22 weeks, I kinda hoped I’d feel her earlier on. She is probably just being stubborn, like her mama. ;)

Fitness Thoughts at 19 weeks:

fit pregnancy -19 weeks

  • I’m feeling pretty fantastic fitness-wise! At BLEND though, I could not do the burpees where you slam your body to the ground (that hurts my belly)–I did mine in plank position. And, yah, full sit-ups? Not so much. Also, running/sprinting, did not feel amazing.
  • I still love teaching fitness, and because I feel great & my doc’s given me the okay, I’m still doing (mostly) what I did before. It was uber fun to be a part of the Zumba fun at BLEND! (more on that in the next recap)
  • This was the final week of coaching GRIT, so that was sad to say good-bye to my team. I’ll probably coach another full 6-week session after the baby has arrived.

First Baby Purchase

is….

an infant car seat!

19 weeks -first baby purchase

The Chicco 30. And wow, it’s super sweet!

19 weeks- pregnancy

We’re going to buy as many items as we can from craigslist/ksl (UT classifieds), but we’re obviously super picky on what we choose to look at & buy. And to do that? You have to be reeeaaallllyyy patient, ask lots of questions, do your research, be picky, and be really good at finagling the price down. I am good at that part (thanks dad for teaching me that!)

A few questions to ask (if you want to buy 2nd hand):

  • what year did you purchase the item?
  • how many babies/kids used the item? for how many hours per day?
  • did the item travel out of the home often?
  • pet free or smoke free home? (both, for me, are vital–if it’s no to either/both, I won’t even go look at the item)
  • do you have the item’s receipt or handbook/safety handbook? // are the safety stickers still on/not peeling?
  • for baby seats: has it ever been in an accident?
  • ALWAYS check for rips, tears, scratches, & general wear & tear.

There are a few things, however, I would never buy secondhand; mattresses being a huge one.

This car seat is only 1 year old, used with 1 child, and looks brand new! Plus, no pets, no smoking, and no accidents. I also got her to lower the price by a lot–so we got it for over 60% off the selling price.

Yah. I am that good. ;)

  1. Aw, yay! First baby purchase out of the way! I can’t believe you’re already 19 weeks, time is flying!

  2. You sound like such a good bargainer! I suck at it – when I went to Mexico with my mom and we went shopping, I made her do it for me ;-)

  3. i’ve bought my nephews bikes from craigslist before – good work on finding that car seat!!

  4. Awwww have fun meeting Hunter!!!

  5. Looking so cute! Items I couldn’t live without:

    1. The newborn lounger (this is the only thing Kaylin would sleep on other than me for MONTHS): http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=19099506

    2. Vibrating chair: Kay was very happy to sit in this while I showered- life saver: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10917780

    3. Pacifier wipes (if your baby decides she likes a pac):http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3504391

    4. Playmat (for when shes a bit bigger): http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2402051

    5. A jumper and/or a walker (for when shes a bit bigger)

  6. You are just too cute my lady! I was happy to meet you and many other ladies! I still havent recovered from the 2 hour time change., I could not go to bed last night even though I was so happy to sleep in my own bed!

  7. I can see why your baby girl is moving like crazy. If she’s anything like her Mom, she’s probably dancing up a storm in there already! :)

  8. Ahh, you’re so cute pregnant! And way to go on the Craigslist purchase. My boyfriend is such a Craigslist/Ebay junkie. He buys and sells everything on there! It’s great financially, but I always warn him to be careful of the craigslist killer ; ). (#paranoid)

  9. Nice job with the car seat purchase! I say that’s the way to do it. We got a used swing that’s in awesome shape for super cheap, and it’s one of Hunter’s favorite things!

P.S. Can’t wait to see youuuu!

  10. I LOVE bargaining! It’s part of my job everyday, so I get lots of good practice! That car seat does look brand new and we bought a used car seat as well. You can find SUCH good deals out there that it’s almost ridiculous to buy everything brand new.

  11. I don’t have a baby, but my sister has a 6 week old and I helped get a lot of stuff for her. As for anything in general I have no issues buying things second hand (assuming good condition). Why spend more money on less things when you can spend less and get more? I have no shame in admitting I love going to goodwill for clothes shopping sprees, It’s one of the reasons my clothing collection is so big, because I rarely pay full price for anything. I am a thrifty shopper, I love coupons, I love bargains, and I love doing research on items to find the store with best deal. I think my favorite is flea marketing though. I don’t think I have ever bought a full price piece of furniture, I love buying old wooden antique stuff and refurnishing it and cleaning it up to look like new.

    • That’s awesome that you are so good at thrifting! I try hard, but it takes a lot of patience–which I’m not fabulous at ;) So I usually do halfsies! hah.

SO cool that you take the furniture & refurnish it!

  12. I am so glad I started following you, after seeing someone post about you on instagram! I love finding local bloggers. :)

Your baby bump is so cute!

I love love loooove KSL! It can be pretty tricky sometimes, but patience really pays off.

  13. Aww you are so adorable! You look great. I am so impressed that you powered through that GPP workout at Blend — props to you, lady!

  14. Your baby bump looks like me bloated Ah ha ha ha ha!!! You look so cute, love it! And I am jealous of this BLEND RETREAT. I didn’t hear about it until…. You all started posting about it. I am so out of the loop! LOL! I cannot wait until some blogging retreats, etc are closer to Los Angeles – I AM SO THERE!

  15. When you’re ready to introduce the pacifier, I recommend http://www.wubbanub.com/!! My son received one as a gift and it quickly became his favorite paci and as he got older he was able to learn to find the little animal while in the crib and paci himself. We know have two and he uses them just during sleep time at 14 months old. Sad he has to have them taken away soon :(

  16. go you- so good at haggling ;)

  17. we are still a little sore from the GPP fitness workouts from Blend!!

    xoxo

  18. That’s SUCH a cute car seat! I love car seats :)

  19. Major SCORE on the car seat! It totally looks brand new!

You and your barely-there bump are too adorable. I’m sure Baby Perks was having a blast bouncing around with you all weekend long. I want go go back! Meet me at Cafe Rio? ;) xoxo

  20. Oh wow! Total score on the car seat! I never even thought of buying stuff like that on Craig’s list…actually, I’m so behind the times, I’ve never bought ANYTHING off of Craig’s list! I really need to see about selling some stuff on there though…I’ve got a front loader washer and dryer that I need to get rid of!

You look so super duper cute!! Love your tiny little bump!
