16 Weeks {Pregnancy Food Consumption Thoughts}

Hey friends!

How’s it going?

First of all, HAPPY 3rd Anniversary to me & my husband!! <3

wedding april 30, 2010

I love love. And I absolutely love being married to Jared. That was the best decision I ever made-to marry him. And our wedding day, 3 years ago, was a day I will never, ever forget. Oh how I loved that day! And to be quite honest, marrying the right guy for me has made every day these past 3 years so much more amazing than I could’ve thought.

Yes, I am a sap. And I know it. 😉 But I got my fairytale, so I’m eternally grateful for that. And for Jared. He really is my perfect match–and looking back, nothing about him was on my ‘perfect husband list’ then. (yes, I totally had one). Crazy how THAT works out right?

Sure we’ve had some arguments, and we disagree on things, but because I married the better half, none of those arguments have ever scaled into any major fights.

God always knows best. And His timing is always perfect. And He helped me become the person I needed to be, so I could meet my love. I am blessed!

Love you, Jared! <3

Annnnnnddd I don’t know of any better way to celebrate than to talk about how we’re having a baby together?! :)

So, here we are, another Tuesday (but such a special one–can’t wait to celebrate with my love!), with another pregnancy update. YAY!

Depending on how I feel week to week (and what randomness I have floating around my head), I may or may not include a ‘topic’ with the pregnancy update. I didn’t want to limit myself to that though, in case I just didn’t feel like writing lots about a certain topic. If that makes sense? hah.

16 Weeks {Pregnancy Food Consumption Thoughts}

Baby Perks is just over 16 weeks today and is about the size of an avocado.

Here’s what else Baby Perks has been up to this week:

  • He/she is 4-1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3-1/2 ounces.
  • His/her legs are much more developed.
  • His/her ears are close to their final position, and tiny bones forming in baby’s ears (meaning he/she can now pick up voices). I think this is suuuupppeerrr neat
  • The patterning of the scalp has begun, though hair isn’t recognizable yet.
  • Baby Perks has started growing toenails(!)
  • His/her heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day. WOW!
  • In the next few weeks, Baby Perks will double in weight and add inches to his/her length. (can’t wait!)

And here’s what’s been happening with me this past week:

16 weeks -pregnancy

How far along? 16 weeks (and 3 days, but who’s counting?)

Baby’s size? avocado

Total weight gain/loss: Not sure, but I’ll know later this week.

Stretch marks? nada

Sleep: This week I didn’t sleep too great–mostly because I couldn’t seem to get enough. And those dang bathroom trips! Pretty sure I know exactly where most of my baby’s body is resting….

Best moment this week: Eating pizza twice.

Miss Anything? Not having to go to the bathroom more than 1x/night?

Movement: Not yet. But according to the baby updates & app stuff, any day now I could ‘feel’ something. However, because this is my first, I probably won’t until a bit later.

Food cravings: pizza, apples, cheese/turkey, pita bread (so weird), hummus (also kinda random), laffy taffy & blow pops (the flavors that are the most sour/tart are my fave), pistachios, real fruit lemon/lime popsicles, cucumbers —all similar to last week’s

laffy taffy

pizza -16 weeks

Food aversions: Chocolate, caramel, & almond butter never sound good. I’m also way less interested in ice cream/fro yo than I used to be. This is all uber sad because I love all of those things! I hope they make a comeback at some point!? I also still don’t have an appetite for dinners-or for cooking. Blah.

Anything making you queasy or sick: It seems to be getting better! Yay. However, I’ve yarfed again this week (annoying)….but the continual nausea is gone. Thank goodness!

Gender: NO idea. Buuuuuttt fingers crossed, we’ll know SOON!

Labor Signs: Obviously none.

Symptoms: itchy skin. headaches (major boo). crying-lots. I just lose it anywhere & anyplace-it’s kind of amazing how out of control I feel sometimes with my emotions!?

Belly Button in or out? In. probably will stay that way.

Wedding rings on or off? On.

Maternity clothes? The green tank top in the above photo is a maternity one! I’ve bought a few things that were on sale, but I’ve not worn any yet-still chugging along in my ‘normal’ clothes. Hopefully that will change soon!

Baby items purchased? nada. One day I will. However, I’m pretty sure I’m going to borrow most from family & then shop craigslist. How I roll–and I’m kinda a pro at finding amazing deals 😉 We might buy some of the big ticket items from amazon, but we shall see. (We’ll have to move once Jared is done with school, so we’re not gonna go cray with buying)

Happy or moody most of the time: happy

Funny moments this week: How I completely forgot like everything. Choreo, people’s names, grocery item lists, my phone, etc. Pregnancy brain is for reals, yo.

Looking forward to: Our gender ultrasound! (THIS WEEK!!!)

Fitness Thoughts at 16 weeks:

16 weeks -fitpregnancy

{after teaching BP/CX yesterday. I took it at home. See the rounding?? Woot.}

  • I’ve been feeling okay this week in the fitness department. Don’t get me wrong, it always feels great/fine when I’m teaching, but sometimes I just don’t want to get up to go teach/get to the gym, ya know?
  • On that note though, I feel I am lucky because I am sort of ‘forced’ to stay fit throughout the pregnancy. If I hadn’t taught fitness classes before the pregnancy & only did my own workouts, I’d say I would have been a LOT lazier during those sick months! I feel blessed that I love to teach fitness, and so getting paid to stay strong & fit for the pregnancy & my baby is pretty darn cool.
  • Yesterday’s BP/CX class went really fantastic, and I felt great throughout it. I really like that combo (1/2 hour of each).
  • GRIT is definitely harder nowadays. And so I coach a lot more–luckily my team really likes that I coach & get in their ‘faces’ a bit more. Win-win, in my opinion! 😉 Annnnnddd GRIT ends in less than 3 weeks, so this’ll be it for the rest of my pregnancy time most likely, so I’m treying to live it up!

{Pregnancy Food Consumption Thoughts}

On to the food topic!

This post, full of thoughts about this, has been a long time coming, but because I discuss it often with my husband/mom/sisters, I feel like I’ve already talked about it here. Whoops-nope!

As you well know, and as I’ve talked about being sick… ad nauseam (hah. pun intended), you also probably know, I had no appetite for weeks. months. (felt like years). I literally survived off of lots of chips, fruit, candy, plain carbs, bagels, cheese, juice, sparkling water, pizza, and some plain raw veggies.

That is not the most ideal group of foods to be consumed when growing a human….

And I felt guilty a lot of the time. I tried hard to eat yogurt, almonds, ‘real’ meals, and less chips & candy, but well, that didn’t work out too well if ya know what I mean (hint: bent over toilet). So I subsisted on eating those kinda crappy foods. Some were good yes (raw veggies/fruit/cheese), but I really mean it when I say I ate sooooo many bags of chips & sour patch kids. I often told my sister that my baby was either going to turn into a bagel or a chip.

I guess we’ll see in the ultrasound, eh? 😉

But I just want to say this, I ate what I could. (And I did take all my vitamins….and kept them down most days). I tried to keep the calories in my stomach, and honestly, that’s all you can really do. And I also had a bunch of pep talks from my husband and sisters, making me feel a lot better. It’s tough not to beat yourself up when you’re kinda out of control with what you can eat/stomach. It was a whole new phenomena for me!

I think it was hard for me because I like to know what it is I am eating (*cough* unpronounceable ingredients), I enjoy eating well, and well, I also tend to feel better when I eat well.

I didn’t necessarily feel better when I ate ‘well’ anymore. This was new to me!  And kind of unnerving that I was drawn to the chip aisle & the full-fat dairy aisle, not the produce section!

It was hard to give up that bit of ‘me’ who likes all the fresh stuff, and let my body eat & desire what it really wants (ahem, packaged stuff, I’m looking at you!). And trust me, it will let me know when it doesn’t want something….

Eating intuitively has never been easier. 😉 *

*I say that jokingly, but I am forever grateful that I found peace with my body & came to terms with any disordered eating habits I had long before I got pregnant. I am in tune with my body, and so I am listening up & eating what I can.*

I am doing my best, and luckily it’s gotten quite a bit better!

p.s. on the flip side of all of those thoughts, it’s been kind of fun on this journey to see how I’ve wanted caloric-high foods-and that my body naturally wanted that stuff. Growing a human + teaching 6-9 fitness classes/week is no joke! Too bad a lot of those foods came with unrecognizable chemicals & such, though….

Have a great day! <3

Does ANYONE else feel like this and/or felt like this in regards to food?? What is YOUR GUESS–BOY OR GIRL???!!! What are YOU craving this week like cray??

  1. Hmm I’ll guess girl! For no apparent reason haha I’ve been craving a ton of smoothies lately. I think itz because I have a million tasty protein powders and I like to make up combos with them!

  2. I would like to say a girl, but for some reason my gut keeps whispering ‘boy’. I can’t wait to see what you post! Are you going to do a big reveal (like cupcake icing, ribbon on your belly, etc)?

I have only met one woman (who is 15 weeks pregnant now) that told me, “I never had morning sickness, continued to run and exercise with my usual routine, and had no food aversions/cravings. I was only tired at 8:30 at night, but never let myself be lazy on the couch.” Ahh…all the ladies that have gone through pregnancy probably hate her, right? I guess she is that lucky 1%. My point is that, most women at some point or another put away many bags of chips/candy/processed food but at the same time have a HEALTHY, HAPPY BABY. Look at those that don’t take care of themselves at all or never receive prenatal care? YOU ARE AWESOME and AMAZING!! Fabulous mama.

  3. You and your husband are SO cute! I love couples that truly LOVE each other!! You are looking fab. I was a ball so darn fast ;). ENJOY and celebrate!

  4. Great to follow your progress. It is quite interesting to see what kind of foods people eat during pregnancy, but also the way you are enjoying life!

  5. You and Jared are adorable <3 Your little one is coming into quite the loving family!

  6. Your body is telling you what it wants, so it’s great that you’re listening to it! I mean, right now, it’s more important that the food/calories actually stays in your stomach. If it’s easier to keep down a bagel than a salad, than by all means go for the bagel!

  7. Happy Anniversary! What an amazing anniversary gift to be preggo!! :):)

I can see a little bump forming!! I have a feeling you have a little lady forming, since you aren’t popping out too quick!

  8. My guess is a GIRL!!!!!

  9. I can relate all too well what you said about what you were eating at the beginning. In my first trimester and beginning of my second, I was eating a ton of white breads, orange juice, and sour patch kids. Like you said, definitely wouldn’t call that a healthy well rounded diet. 😉 I had a hard time not beating myself about it too, but I’m so glad I was in a better place so that it didn’t get to me too much.

You’re looking great! Glad you’re feeling better for the most part too!

  10. Wooooo congrats to your hubby and you on anniversary and the baby! Can’t wait to learn what gender! :) I’m glad you’re happy! xo

  11. danielle says:

Happy Anniversary!!!! what a joyous day, yay! I honestly can’t guess because i know you’ll be happy for either, and no matter which baby Perks will be such a miracle and blessing!
on food cravings, you must have given all your chocolate/almond butter cravings to me because i can’t STOP craving those things, along with olive oil… go figure?! i’ve also been really into Jell-O for some odd reason, maybe my bones need more gelatin? yeahhhhhhh, lol. i’m also craving molasses. maybe i need magnesium. i love playing food detective, hahaha
okay lady, have a marvelous day and LOVELY anniversary!!!! xoxoxo

  12. what a nice couple you are!

  13. happy anny!

  14. Happy Anniversary! Love is a wonderful thing! Congrats on your pregnancy That is so exciting!

  15. Celeste says:

My bet is on a boy :) Congrats!

  16. Caroline says:

    Boy. I vote boy.
I didn’t feel any movements untill week 17 and it was faint. Kinda like is my stomach was feeling funny and it was a fluttering feeling.

  17. Happy 3 years to you and your hubby! Me and mine will celebrate 2 years in a couple weeks :) my guess is a girl :)

  18. Woohoo! Congrats on your anniversary!
I think it’s great you’re eating what you can and no one should criticize you for your choice in the growth and health of your own baby. Hey, if that’s a bagel over some veggies that should be perfectly fine!
I’m glad things have been getting better!
    Hmmm, I think it’ll be a boy!

  19. I think it’ll be a girl! No idea why… I just do! :)

  20. happy 3 years! my husband and I just celebrated our 1st year :)
    thinking it is a boy!

  21. Yes, maybe it’s a message that you need more calorie dense foods- and you’re body is smart enough to know those things contain plenty haha. Don’t worry about it, you’re still healthy but you’re doing what you’ve got to do for your bubba. And who knows maybe all the less good food will get you use to eating a bit more and eventually you’ll be craving the food you usually love to eat pre-pregnancy.

You’re still amazing and healthy and wonderful, so we don’t think anything less dw xx

  22. You are looking fab! Good for you on the fitness while pregnant too! I am sure, like you said, it is easier when it is your job! Keep rocking at it!!

Congrats to you and Happy 3 year anny to you and your husband!! So sweet!

  23. Lauren says:

Ok so I am currently 15 weeks pregnant exactly and just Re-read this old post of yours and I cannot tell you how much better it made me feel!!! I am personal trainer myself (although I’m working on some other thugs right now) and a total healthy eating nut…until 5 weeks 3 days. That was the first day the nausea started and it got progressively harder and harder to eat, let alone healthy foods. I felt SO incredibly guilty that at this important time I was eating cheese and crackers, Cheerios, and Gatorade. Not to mention working out has been completely off the table since I felt so bad. Even now when I feel ok (pulling out of the nausea now!) I get sick and terrible headaches after just a walk or light weights. I also lost weight in the first trimester and I know this is normal but it was scary! I’m at that point of wanting the baby bump! So all this rambling to tell you THANK YOU for this post because I see that in not alone and the baby is doing ok too!

    • Congrats on your pregnancy!

Yeah, with pregnancy you just gotta go with the flow and how you feel. I promise pregnancy doesn’t last forever and you’ll be back to eating normally in no time! Now that I’ve had two, I can honestly say that, and you have your healthy habits that are a part of who you are, so you don’t have to be nervous or worried. You’ll bounce back to that afterward, I’m sure! hugs!
