Massage Benefits + Weekend Recap

Hey friends! HAPPY Monday :)

How was your weekend?

Mine was stellar. With a capital S.

Weekend Recap

Ya all saw my Friday and Friday evening date night, right?

If not, here it is. You’ll want to check it out. YUMMY food pics and a book review to boot!

Saturday was pretty darn good too.

After sleeping in a bit, I hit the gym for 3.33 miles of HIIT running on the treadmill, and some weights action (full body). It was okay. The gym was crowded so that was kind of annoying.

But then again, my fault for going after 9 a.m. (it’s SO quiet at like 6 a.m. on a Saturday).

After showering, I ate this:

Mmmm. So good. And still going strong. By the way, the cream cheese must be just right-not too thick, not too thin.

The other day my husband spread my bagel for me (I was running late. Surprise, surprise), and although it was super kind of him, he totally spread the cream cheese wayyyyy too thin. So naturally I had to add extra.

Anyways.

After my breakfast, I headed to my Birthday MASSAGE appointment!

WAHOO.

{My birthday is in 9 days, so feel free to send gifts now.} :)

It was great! (more on that below)

Hit the grocery stores.

Showered again.

Ate my Cafe Rio leftovers from yesterday’s date night:

They made it look wayyyy better. Ahh well. It still tasted AWESOME.

Did laundry. Cleaned. Read.

And then went with the hubs to see a movie in the dollar theatre.

It was pretty good! I actually kinda like action-packed movies that keep me hanging. (Half the time I had no idea what was going on, which kept me interested and on the edge of my seat.)

I ate this during it:

Yah. I have no idea what it is either.

Kidding. It was dark chocolate toffee almonds, dark choc almonds, and milk choc cashews.

We never really ate dinner, so after the movie I made myself a snack:

Sunday we slept in (I slept for 11 hours!).

We also went to church, read, baked, cooked, went on a walk, and had a blast just chillin.’

It was such a good weekend!

Massage Benefits

Did you know that there are physiological as well as psychological benefits to getting a massage?

I am pretty sure you did. Especially if you’ve had one before.

{Note: A massage is definitely a luxury, and why I do not pay money very often for it. I got this as a gift for my birthday. In a dream world I would get one every week.}

I actually enjoy a deep tissue massage because that is the only thing that can really break up the soreness & the ‘knots’ that I’ve got going on.

Here are some of the massage benefits:

  • enhances muscle function
  • aids in the healing process
  • promotes relaxation
  • decreases muscle-reflex activity
  • reduces tension

There are over 80 different type of massages with target tissues such as muscle, ligaments, joints, fascia, and even lymphatic vessels. (source)

Massage has been used to help enhance athletes’ performance, aid patients in falling asleep, and relax business persons before important meetings.

Pretty much a massage not only feels good, there are actual, real benefits going on.

******

Well, I am off to go teach some BP, work, and then teach BP again.

CHEERS!

How was YOUR weekend?? How do YOU like YOUR cream cheese?? Have YOU ever had a massage?? If so, which kind??

  1. I LOVE the Bourne movies! I forgot one came out recently – hopefully it will be on video soon.
I just had my first massage ever in August. It was not what I expected but I was very relaxed after!

  2. i love massages! if only they weren’t so dang expensive! def a luxury!!

  3. Sounds like you had the perfect weekend! Ahh nothing beats a fantastic massage… That might just have to go on my Christmas list this year. ;) And I totally agree with you about the cream cheese – not too thick, not too thin, just right!

  4. Looks like such a great weekend! Okay, well now I have to go get a massage and get in those benefits;) I looove massages. Not during, since they hurt but after they feel amazing! It’s weird because I get a “drunk” feeling after them, so I can never drive after. Maybe I’m just odd.

  5. As much as I love a great massage, I’d rather have that bagel right about now lol.

But seriously, one of the greatest benefits of massage, as awesome as they feel physically, is the mental relaxation that occurs. It’s almost impossible to have anxiety or worry while you’re on the table. Everyone needs a little “me” time and it’s a fantastic way to treat yourself.

  6. I’m glad you had such a great weekend!!! I’ve had 3 massages before, 2 of them due to gift cards! My last one was 2 days after the marathon, but honestly the next morning I woke up and felt like I needed another! haha. Glad you had such a great weekend!

  7. I’m a huge advocate of massage. I used to think it was totally a luxury-only type thing, but the truth is that it’s quite healing. To make it more affordable, I look for groupons, ask my hubby, and use a foam roller (for some self-massage). :)

I missed your date night post so I’ll have to read it after this. I was at Lake Conroe for the Oilman 70.3 all weekend, raced yesterday, and am in desperate need of another massage!!! OMG I am sore like a mother. I want to cut off my right leg, but guess I’d need it eventually, haha. I had no idea how much harder it was than I even imagined… very humbling. Now I understand your race recap SOOOO much more. I cried, a few times. Yep. Worst run of my life ever! But hey, we finished. Thank the Lord.
yes, so back to massages… LOVE them! I had one yesterday and will having another tomorrow, and possible one more on Saturday because gosh darnit, I deserve it! lol
Happy Monday girlie, glad your weekend was so super awesome! xoxo

    • CONGRATS!!!! I thought about you this weekend and couldn’t remember if you were racing this weekend or the next. YOU DID IT!!!!

how do you feel!??! What did you do to treat yourself afterwards? What was your favorite part? Would you ever do it again?!

AHHHHHH! so SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!! <3

      xoxo

Thank you girlie! I feel elated and happy, but also crazy sore. I can barely walk and hobble when I do, and entire lower body feels assaulted, lol. But overall I’m delighted it’s done. Hooray, we did that! Wow. Later in the evening all I wanted was a really yummy.huge veggie omelette, followed by salty almond butter. I was craving salt, still am. Can’t wait for my mom to cook dinner tonight, I hope it’s a steak but I’ll take anything :-)
Dunno if I’d do it again, but I’m sure glad I did. As soon as my shin and leg gets better I’ll be hitting the weights, yay! How long did you rest before you were able to workout? I should just re read your post, lol

        • I am SO proud of you!! <3

I rested a full day, and then that Monday taught a BP class. Nothing too crazy. I didn’t run for like 1.5 weeks after! hah.

          • Danielle says:

Omg girl, I will not be running for a long while and loving it, lol. Did upper body weights today and felt amazing, yay! :-)

I love massages with deep blue! Can’t wait to have one over thanksgiving break! I love your outfit- that skirt is SO cute.

  10. Cream cheese needs to have a semi-thick layer! Not too thin, but not too thick that all you taste is cream cheese.

I love massages! I only get one-two a year but they are ridiculously beneficial.

  11. I need a massage right now! that would be nice! hmm. maybe ill schedule one!

  12. I’d love a massage, but am pretty spoilt with the massages from the boy for now- he is pretty good ;) I can’t afford massages weekly either but my dad and stepmum do- so jelly. I do have a foam roller so that’s better than nothing right? Plus for $35 dollars I’ve used it plenty :) The budget option ;)
