Date Night + 13 Reasons Why Book Review

Hey friends! I hope you are all doing well.

My heart and continued prayers goes out to those on the east coast. Seeing some pictures yesterday just makes me tear up. I am far from the devastation here in the west, so seeing the images definitely made it more real. Blessings and prayers to you all!

Date Night

Last night we had ourselves some fun!

But first, I got a haircut.

FINALLY.

I am kind of embarrassed to say that it’s been 6 months since I visited my hair lady. YAH. Confession mania.

I love my hairdresser and she always manages to turn my blabbering about several haircuts/color that I send her via email into a real, live thing. It’s impressive what she can do, actually.

Anyway, I told my husband that if I was going to have my hair ‘done,’ we had better take advantage of that.

He got the clue and we went out to dinner at one of our favorites: Cafe Rio. LOVE love that place.

We also enjoyed some fun strolling around the shops in the area.

And we just randomly came upon this:

I have NO idea how that happened?!

:)

{P.s. 4 flavors in there: pumpkin (mmmmm!), angel food cake (so good!), pomegranate, and cranberry (yumm yumm)}

We cuddled & watched a movie. It was a perfect date night for us!

Today is a workout, errands, cleaning, and other random stuff I must get done.

13 Reasons Why Book Review

About 2 weeks ago I read and finished 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, as a participant in Julie’s Blogger Book Club.

I have mixed feelings and emotions about this book.

*WARNING: spoilers will be in this post*

I can’t really say I loved the book, as the main character commits suicide and the book is all about her making those who ’cause’ her to do the act to relive how they treated her & why she did what she did. I definitely see the power behind writing such a book, but because it is such a sensitive, and frankly dark topic, it’s hard for me to say I loved the book. I tend to gravitate towards books that have a good ending, and this obviously does not.

However, you know beforehand that she commits suicide, so I guess you know there won’t necessarily be ‘closure’ or a happy ending. I do believe Jay wrote the book to get the topic out there & to have people discussing it so that things like that (bullies/rumors/etc. in schools) can be avoided & prevented in the future-which I find remarkable and very gutsy.

Now, with all that being said, I couldn’t put the book down. It was well written & I enjoyed how he wrote it from her perspective, but also from the boy she liked’s perspective as well. He tied the stories of what happened to her together nicely, so it made for a good read, I suppose, but again, it feels funny saying it was a ‘good’ read when it was about someone’s story of eventually committing suicide.

So I guess I am totally conflicted. I liked reading the book and am glad I did, but I didn’t necessaerily feel uplifted or fabulous when it was over. It was definitely a heavy book. But, if you’re looking for a book to discuss these type of topics with teenagers and friends, it would be a perfect book to read & discuss.

p.s. I think there is going to a be a movie made out of the book?

Well, with that, I am off to enjoy the rest of my weekend. Have a GREAT one ya’all!

When was the last time YOU got a haircut?? Did YOU have a date night last night?? What was the latest book YOU read?? If YOU read this book, what did YOU think??
