Tips For Fitness and Health Bloggers #FHBC12 + The Simply Bar

Good morning to you!

I love traveling, and I love visiting my siblings. That was a great weekend! It was also seriously fabulous to come home to my husband yesterday! He had cleaned the entire apartment again, and did my laundry that I had left behind.

While at the Fitness and Health conference I learned a lot, and I am excited to share chunks of it at a time with you, so those of you who would benefit can. :) (The main website is found HERE)

Tips for Fitness and Health Bloggers (at #FHBC12)

  • If you write a blog, state your purpose or main ‘event’ near the beginning of the post, as most readers don’t really read the middle (they scan it). This is really great to pull readers in, too! :)
  • As a blogger it is your responsibility to use good grammar and spelling, as those are turnoffs for brands and readers who are looking for educational or helpful information. (For those who write a blog purely for personal diary, this may not be as important, but could still turn away readers if there are a lot of mistakes.)
  • Always, always stay true to yourself. Write from WHO you are! Don’t try to be another blogger. Please.
  • Consistency is key! When people start to trust a source, they trust that it will be consistent. Give that to your readers if you want them to come back to ya!
  • Try to always add personal style and good content. Most people are looking for information on the Internet, not just fillers, but they also don’t want to be bored. A good mix of both will keep all parties happy :)
  • Closing the gap between the reader and the writer is a huge thing as well. Put yourself in the reader’s shoes, so it’s not always all about you. Readers get bored if they feel alienated or ‘forgotten’ about.
  • Do your research. If you’re going to write about an educational piece of information regarding obesity in children, read the latest research on it! There is nothing worse than reading false information on a seemingly credible site….it really bugs me, actually.
  • Have a point of view. This too is a big one! It is crazy annoying when a blogger just sways from one thing to the next without formulating an opinion. Have you guys noticed that I am really opinionated?? If not, just ask my husband. ūüėČ
  • And of course, facts are facts and opinions are opinions, keep that straight. And “an opinion about a fact is still an opinion.” <– A favorite quote of mine from a speaker at the conference (@JanetHelm , RD).

I am a straight forward person, and don’t like beating around a bush, so I will say that I really enjoyed this part of the conference! Because it presented the topic to people who could potentially need some work in this area, the presenters did a nice job of not pointing fingers, but rather giving a bunch of ideas and tips to improve writing in this area.

If you are a fitness/health blogger, I highly recommend checking out these tips and using them in your own writing!

The Simply Bar

While on the road, and in training, I’ve been eating an amazing snack that I wanted to review for ya! It was a new-to-me bar, so I was excited to try it-especially because of the way it sized up to other bars!

The Simply Bar is a great company that started in Canada by some amazing ladies! The bars they make are gluten free, kosher, and vegan, and have aided thousands of athletes and health-conscious ladies fuel their bodies right.

I was sent a sample box to try, and I definitely enjoyed most of them. :)

{See that smile? I had just enjoyed a bar!}

They have a bunch of delicious flavors such as caramel peanut, cocoa raspberry, and cinnamon. My favorite was the lemon coconut and the cinnamon. Boy were they tasty! (I did not love the cocoa coffee or the caramel peanut…..I don’t like coffee or peanuts. Haha)

The bars are chewy, high in protein, and pretty low in calories for the amount of good stuff in them. I have eaten them in between a brick workout (biking and running), and in the car after a workout, and it was great to just have a bar right there to refuel. Plus, the great taste kept me satisfied until my next meal. I am seriously impressed with how high they are in protein (16 g)!

If you like chewy, healthy protein bars with no artificial ingredients, this is your bar! Thank you, The Simply Bar for the awesome products!

******

Well, I am off to do some serious damage at the gym (I have a lot of energy and excitement to burn!), and then back to work I go.

Have a great day!

What advice or tips have YOU found useful in blogging or writing?? What is the latest bar YOU have tried that YOU’ve loved??
