Focus On: Donkey Kicks

Happy weekend to us :)

Last night we attended a wedding reception of my uncle’s. He just got remarried after his first wife died 6 years ago, so it was a nice excuse to see some of my cousins and other family I hadn’t seen in awhile. Plus, let’s be honest, there is (usually) good food at wedding events. 😉

I also got a bunch of new books & magazines from the library that I am stoked about (read about my latest book review). Who else gets crazy excited about books?!! (Oh good, we can be nerd friends together!!)

From the crazy kick-butt boot camp workout I posted this week (anyone try it yet?!), there is a move called “Donkey Kicks.” Well, I got a bunch of questions & emails about it, so I decided to just post about ’em.

They are actually a favorite of mine–and if done correctly (and often), are guaranteed to tone any tush. Promise.

Focus On: Donkey Kicks

This move (we’re talking about the 1-legged move) targets the glutes, hamstrings, and core. Who said they wanted to get toned and add some strength??

Oh right, all of us :)


To do Donkey Kicks:

  • Get on your hands and knees, with your hands about shoulder-width distance apart.
  • Bend one knee & bring that heel up toward the sky, keeping the knee bent at 90 degrees.
  • Repeat on the same leg 20 times, and then switch to the other leg.
  • Remember to keep the abs braced (core tight). Don’t let your abs ‘sink’ to the floor.
  • (If you want to ‘burn’ it out more, keep the knee elevated at about hip height and push from there. OUCH!)

Like I said, hello booty! We all were made with butts, so why not make ’em even more beautiful?! I thought so. :)


And, this move can be done while watching TV, doing your homework, or even while cooking dinner. Once again, no excuse! Besides, you never regret a workout.

  1. i’m definitely breaking these out in the gym today! when i used to work at a bar, if no one was there i would take off my shoes and do lunges across the restaurant. haha (and i definitely showered and scrubbed my feet when i got home!)

    I just recently found your blog and did your boot camp workout on Friday. I loved it! It was challenging and had me sweating. I’m definitely going to add it to my rotation – especially when traveling. Thanks for a great workout!
