Omega 3 Fatty Acids
You all have probably heard about Omega 3’s. If you haven’t, the quick low-down is this : we need Omega 3 fatty acids in our diet because our body does not produce them. This need is there because our body functions best with these essential fatty acids circulating in our system. Hence the hype for flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, and fish.
Those Omega 3’s are more important than Omega 6’s, as the 3’s (shortened version to saying it) help reduce inflammation and can aid in reducing the risk of heart disease, some cancers, and strokes.
Omega 6’s are also essential in our diet, but the Western diet is not lacking in 6’s. In fact, the ratio of 6’s to 3’s is dangerously high, and is thought, among many medical doctors, that that high ratio is one of the leading contributors to heart disease and strokes (because 6’s tend to increase inflammation if consumed in larger quantities.)
These fatty acids are found in fatty fish and oils from those fish…..but not all of those fatty acids are readily bioavailable (meaning the body does not take up very much from the actual amount in the food).
When I was contacted by Everest Nutrition regarding my desire to try Everest Nutrition Krill Oil pills that have 300 mg Omega 3’s per pill, with the Omega 3’s being more bioavailable than fish oil, and helps to reduce PMS symptoms (because I am lucky to have mine back!!), I was all over it.
