Fun Heart Facts

Happy HEART day :) AKA Happy VALENTINE’S Day!!

I love LOVE <3 I really do. I’ve fallen in love only a few times in my life, but the true love of my life came into my life when I was least expecting it. Funny how that usually happens, right?!

Anyways, whatever you’re doing today-tell your loved ones you LOVE them! And often. By the way, everyone can have a Valentine, it does not need to be a lovey-dovey one (like husband-wife), but of course, it can be.

With whomever you spend the day with, enjoy this DAY of LOVE, my friends!

I thought today would be the perfect day to bring out my inner geek and leave you with some healthy-and fun-heart facts!

Fun Heart Facts

  1. The heart beats about 100,000 times each day and about 35 million times per YEAR. Whoa!
  2. The heart is made up of muscle tissue (the myocardium-a part of the heart wall-is a layer of muscle), so when exercising, don’t forget to work that muscle/organ out. It’s the most important one to exercise!
  3. The body has about 5.6 Liters of blood–and all that blood is pumped (and circulated) about 3 times per MINUTE.
  4. The heart valves’ opening and closing makes the ‘lub’ and ‘dub’ sounds you can hear (if you listen closely).
  5. The heart has its own electrical impulse, so the heart can continue beating even if separated from the body (but only if supplied with oxygen).
  6. The heart begins beating at 4 weeks after conception.
  7. The average woman’s heart beats faster than the average male’s heart. A man’s beats about 70 bpm and a woman’s 78 bpm.
  8. Plato is the one who theorized that the brain was the center of reasoning and the heart was where passions originated.

The heart is a truly amazing organ and I am so grateful to have one ;) If you truly want to live a healthy, happy life, you must work that heart. Just so you know, heart disease is the leading killer among women (and is one of the top 5 killers for everyone in the U.S.) so…..

Here are some great ways to keep a healthy heart:

{They are all cardiovascular exercises and are called that because cardiac is from the Greek, meaning “heart”-and as all those exercises work the heart, they are known as cardio.}

And YES, this is true (in honor of V-Day):

And with that, I am off to work my HEART <3.

Treadmill, you better be ready for me. I’ve got energy coming out of my ears!! If you want to join me virtually, grab one of my workouts and GO!

Have a LOVELY Valentine’s Day <3 !!

What heart facts have YOU heard about?? How are YOU going to work your heart today?? Any fun V-Day plans?? <—I’m making dinner and already made some fun crafts for the hubs. We’ll probably snuggle, eat dessert, and watch a movie too!

  5. Hi Annnette!! I don’t know if you remember me…I took your BodyPump classes alot last summer and into the fall… (the Monday/Wednesday morning class) Just randomly stumbled across your blog this morning when I saw your comment on another blog and recognized your picture!!

Just wanted to thank you so much for your incredible blog, especially all the posts you’ve written about disordered eating. I am in recovery from a tough battle with anorexia and in the process of recovery I too went through a period of binge eating. Reading some of your posts this morning on those topics really encouraged me to keep pressing forward with my recovery. THANKS! :)

And thanks for being such an awesome BodyPump instructor too – you were always my favorite and I’m not just saying that to flatter you. ;-) Your encouraging spirit and upbeat attitude was always a ton of fun! I got a new job in November which is why I’m no longer able to come to BodyPump…but I’ve gotten into my own weight-lifting routines now and I’m at the gym at 5:45 every day and loving it! :)

Have a great Valentine’s Day! Thanks again for your encouragement through your blog!

    • Awww HOPE! Of course I know/remember you! Thanks for ‘finding’ me!

Glad you liked the readins–I just share what I know, have experienced, and my inspirations to help others. I love my life and am grateful for the struggle, but I am SO glad it’s ending/over :) BodyPUMP is the best!! Hope to see you again soon (?)!! :) Awesome job on going at 5:45 a.m. though, that’s amazing!

  6. Happy Valentine’s Day! =) I heart you!
