BodyPUMP AIM 1 Review

Hey you guys! How are ya?

I know I am T.I.R.E.D. still. But it’s a good tired, I promise :)

There’s something about pushing your fitness limits-no matter how exhausting that ends up being-that makes you feel accomplished, proud, and hard core.

I think I am addicted to that feeling…….

….Okay. I KNOW I am.

This is a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because it makes me happy any time I do that (i.e. almost every time I teach BodyPUMP 4x every week) and helps me in all aspects of life, but a bad thing because, well, it’s addictive, time consuming, and takes me away from my husband (such sickly sweet lovebirds, I know).

BodyPUMP AIM 1 Training Review

Luckily it is GOOD for me overall, and I found a bunch of people that love BodyPUMP just as much as I do. These people were fellow instructors of BodyPUMP that attended the AIM 1 (Advanced Instructor Module 1) training with me!

The day was intense, hard, exhilarating, exciting, and a HUGE learning experience. I loved my trainer! She was so strong, funny, and such a great instructor. I really love meeting new people who encourage, uplift, and MOTIVATE me -so she rocked!

{My trainer, Kim, whom I loved. She seriously rocks!}

The AIM 1 day looked {loosely} like this:

3:10 a.m. Wake up call

3:30 a.m.-6:30 a.m. Husband drives us to the training (SUCH a gem)

7:00 a.m.-7:45 a.m. Welcome, Consent Signing, Meet and Great

8:00 a.m.-8:15 a.m. Team work skill builder (which my team won. Wahoo!)

8:15 a.m.-8:25 a.m. Assignment of track and track practice (I was assigned the Lunge track. I was SO happy about that!)

8:30 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. BodyPUMP class taught by each of us (I used the mic and went to the front to teach during the Lunges track). We received feedback (both positive and things to work on) right after teaching.

10:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Teaching in the essence of BodyPUMP lecture

11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Intense flexibility, strength, and workout tests (hard but fun)

1:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Lunch (I ate food that I mentioned yesterday –eggs, cheese, orange, apple + AB)

1:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. More lecture on proper teaching and coaching

2:00 p.m.-2:45 p.m. Another couple of fitness challenges (I cleaned and pressed 72 kg!!!)

2:45 p.m. -3:30 p.m. BodyPUMP class again (putting into practice what we got feedback on)

3:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Wrap up

4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Shower and drive home (eat more; husband drove–awesome!)

9:30 p.m. FALL into bed

{I realize a lot of that was boring for you, but it’s a nice reminder for me when I want to reminisce, ya know?}

As you can see, it was NO joke. The fitness challenges included perfect pushups challenge, lower back plank challenge (SO hard), the clean & press challenge (pyramid-style workout, which got me to 72 kg for the final rep!!), and a biceps curl against the wall challenge (INSANELY hard. That’s why I can’t move my arms), plus lots of perfect position and placement work with the weighted bar.

****

Through this all I realized something : when you LOVE something that much (in the fitness realm), exercise is not a chore, nor is it something you take for granted. It is something to cherish, work at, and enjoy.

I did not complain for one second during the training (I did about how sore I was after, but only for a few minutes). I say this not to sound all proud and perfect, but to illustrate something : when you find something that speaks to YOU and you just can’t live without it, you don’t (usually) complain about that ‘thing.’

It is like I have found my calling. When I teach BodyPUMP I am in my element. Literally. I feel like time stops. I feel connected to the moves, the people, and the music.

{blurry, recycled pic. Awesome}

I also realize that this is what has helped me come out of my ‘shell.’ I’ve never been shy, but teaching this class has made me more confident and composed in real-life situations (and helped me give up the disordered eating for good) and I am gonna roll with that 😉

This may all sound kind of wonky, but I want to remember forever how much fitness means to me from a BodyPUMP-instructor stand point. It just makes me totally HAPPY.

{oh hey sexy beast. HAH}

It’s almost like teaching BodyPUMP has helped me know how strong I am, how strong I can be, and how very important it is to take care of that precious body so I can be that strong and fit.

I like a challenge, and teaching it is always a challenge to step up my game and help the gym goers step it up as well. I love that part about it too<—it is motivating to see OTHER people get fit and excited about being strong as well. SO fabulous.

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to teach BP :)

**With that training done, from here, now that I have feedback and information I want to work on and incorporate into my teaching, I can prepare myself to be ready for AIM 2 when the time is right! Wahoo!**

In other news, I am off to run some miles and teach some Pilates & core work at the gym. I’ve missed that!

Have a GREAT day :)

Have YOU ever done something challenging that made you grateful instead of complain?? What fitness aspect “speaks” to YOU??

  1. holy cow that sounds SO intense!!!! i think it is challenging to wake up at 5:15am but the reward of having a tight, fit body and having loads more energy throughout the day is totally worth it. and my “challenging” thing sounds totally lame next to your 8 hours of butt wooping! :) :)

  2. your passion for bodypump makes me a little teary-eyed cause I have the same passion for running…i know its a little different since you are a teacher and its even better because you get to motivate people…but running is something that constantly challenges me and puts some real meaning and depth into my fitness and mental well-being…running has really saved my life in a lot of ways…its hard, tough work, but i LOVE every second of it and I hope to be one of those awesome 80 year olds running marathons, lol!
