Pumpkin Trivia

What a lovely, relaxing weekend. Pretty sure my weekend ‘becomes’ relaxing after some cardio and BodyPUMP action on Saturdays, but hey, who’s counting, right?

Heh.

oh hey leaves

To kick off the “weekend” mindset after BodyPUMP craziness, I started with this:

couldn't wait to dig in...hence these lovely photos

That would be a belgian waffle (not pumpkin, though) with chia seeds (!!!) and syrup, & 1 egg+1 eggwhite spinach, feta cheese thing. It is okay to be jealous.

It was just as scrumptious as it sounds (and hopefully looks. Hah)

ANd then…. to give away what we did on Saturday early afternoon…..how many of you have gone to a pumpkin patch recently?

Holy smokes there is a lot to do there! The place was a madhouse, but boy was it fun.

let the madness begin

People, food, activities, pumpkins, more people, lots of yelling kids, and a whole lot of smiles sprinkled our Saturday afternoon! We went with my parents and some of my siblings. It made for a lovely day :)

little sis

On the hay ride we saw some cool stuff too-

can you see what I can....?

How cool is that to see broccoli LIVE? I love finding out where food in the grocery store aisles really come from. But then again, some of it, I don’t think any of us really want to know…..which may be why America is in a horrible chronic disease crisis….

But I digress.

Back to the hay wagon ride–

blobs of orange!

Instead of a pumpkin, I’m carving this, though:

:)

I mean with all the pumpkin shortages people have been experiencing lately, I might as well help out a little, ya know?

Okay fine. I am kidding! We will carve pumpkins 😉

And because pumpkin is on everyone’s brains lately, here is some fun trivia for ya to get your mind revved into gear for a Monday morning :)

Pumpkin Trivia

  1. Pumpkins are really a squash-like fruit. Who knew?!
  2. Pumpkins contain antioxidants lutein & alpha and beta carotene.
  3. 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are produced each year in America….but this number is probably much smaller this year!
  4. The largest pumpkin ever grown was 1,810 pounds!  (holy smokes!!)
  5. Most of a pumpkin is edible including the flesh, seeds, flowers, and even the leaves.
  6. Pumpkin seeds are very nutritious as they are chock full of protein, Zinc, Magnesium, and may even aide in lowering cholesterol.
  7. Pumpkin seed oil is a delicacy in Austria, and is used in salads and soups–and because I’ve lived there I can amen to that–OH boy is it DElicious! I love that stuff.
  8. The town of Morton, Illinois is the self-declared pumpkin capital of the world — about 90% of canned pumpkin is processed there. (Wikipedia!)
  9. Made famous in Harry Potter books, pumpkin juice is supposedly a delicious drink derived from pumpkins.

Hope you enjoyed trivia time–I am off to teach some BodyPUMP. Release 79 is kicking my butt (and, eh, legs…) every time! Have a great day :)

What pumpkin trivia have YOU heard?? Do YOU carve pumpkins every year?? Do YOU like pumpkin dishes?? <—I love pumpkin soup, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin loaf bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin oatmeal….but I hate pumpkin pie. SO weird!

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! I loved the post!!! I can’t get over my current pumpkin obsession. And those are some great little pumpkin facts!!!

  2. love pumpkins! a fruit, interesting!

  3. How interesting! I liked all the facts. :) We just had a pumpkin carving “party” this past weekend. It was fun to see what everyone carved. I am not super creative nor very patient, so I did a traditional, easy carved pumpkin. I can’t wait to see how you carve your squash! That bad boy is HUGE!

    • So, I got a pumpkin…but I did want to take the squash too! haha.

And guess what-easy, traditional pumpkins are MY favorite–so that was a good choice 😉

  4. caroline says:

HOLY SMOKES that is a HUGE squash! And I am obsessed with pumpkin. However, I am slightly scared to cook my own pumpkin and prefer the canned stuff. weird? yes.

    • haha. It is not hard to cook it–slice it, put it in some water, and let it cook away. I think the canned stuff is MUCH easier though…not gooey seeds to pull out!

  5. I’ve NEVER been to a pumpkin patch! I think it would be wild though!

Your lil sis looks so much like you!

I love pumpkin…Mostly in baked goods…I can take or leave pumpkin pie for sure…I prefer pumpkin smoothies, cookies or muffins over pie any day!

    I love the trivia!
