When Calories Matter + Thankful Thursday

Hey all–

Let’s get down into the nitty gritty, shall we?

When Calories Matter

There are a few moments during the day/week when calories, and the type of calories (read:what are carbohydrates), really DO matter. These moments/minutes are the most opportune time for the body to extract the optimal nutrients for it to function correctly and at its best.

when to eat you....?

It is like feeding your engine the right kind of gas at the right moment…..okay that analogy didn’t really work, but you get the picture, right? 😉

Here are some times that the body uses nutrients (read:food/calories) up quickly and efficiently:

  • Breakfast time (i.e. beginning of the day) <–smoothie in a bowl anyone?!
  • Right before a workout

before I taught a Zumba class--need fuel!

  • Right after a workout
  • Snack time in the afternoon
  • Right after feeling slightly hungry (not letting the body get to ‘starving’ or ‘famished’ mode is important)

Feeding the body at these times allows for proper nutrients to get to the right places efficiently. These times are also great moments for the calories to be used for fuel and energy, and not for fat storage (key if weight loss/weight management is the goal).

Some people argue that any time is when calories matter, but if you’re looking for perfect moments to eat some super foods, load up on whole foods, or avoid the mid-day slump of refined sugars, this is your go-to list now!

super foods MATTER!

Healthyliving folks!

Look for a follow-up post on pre- and post- workout meals. Let’s feed our bodies right so they run great, shall we? :)

Thankful Thursday

  1. I am thankful for cloudless skies that allow me to slow down & to feel the sunshine on my face.
  2. I am grateful for a mom and dad who love me unconditionally!
  3. I am super grateful for air conditioning.
