Zumba Dances

In the mix:

  • water + ice
  • frozen pineapple chunks
  • huge handful of spinach
  • almond milk
  • choc protein powder
  • cinnamon
  • mixed nuts and raw oats sprinkled on top!

With the Summer series in full swing, I might as well give a shout out to my newly added Zumba classes that I get to teach (2x/week!!). If you have been reading for awhile you know I love Zumba, but even more so, I love teaching it!


I seriously love watching people catch the vision, burn some major Zumba calories, and feel the exhilaration of a good Zumba class. Today was no different! I had a whole lot of fun dancing it up, sweating buckets, and watching members have a blasty. Love.

Some people have asked what kind of Zumba dances we do?

Zumba Dances

Zumba Fitness, LLC is the company that trains and certifies instructors. If the instructor chooses to be a part of the Zumba Instructor Network (or ZIN), he/she will receive (9-10) choreographed Zumba dances every other month (along with the music). The other month the ZIN member receives just music, with the opportunity to create his/her own choreography.

Each class should include a mix of a variety of (mostly) Latin dances from the following ‘types’:

  • Reggaeton
  • Salsa
  • Cumbia
  • Merengue
  • Belly Dance
  • Calypso
  • African/Latin mix
  • Bachata
  • Greek

The instructor can also have a few songs that include the latest music and moves, and may not necessarily be ‘Latin.’ To keep with the original Zumba format, the instructor should choose to do a 70% Latin and 30% ‘other’ music class. I try to stick with this ‘rule,’ as best I can, because I feel it keeps Zumba dances and Zumba classes the way they should be.

  2. I’ve never tried Zumba but it always looks like so much fun! I’m not really a “dancer” though so I’ve always been so intimidated by it!

    • The thing is, most people in a Zumba class are not ‘dancers’ but they have fun too!! The participants are either looking at themselves or the teacher, so have NO fear about thinking you like a fool to others <----they are too busy watching themselves. Promise! As a teacher, I can see these things in class 😉 besides, sweating and smiling is all that matters, and THAT happens in Zumba!
