Sleep Miracles

Hey all, happy Monday! It was a fabulous weekend, just like I had envisioned. Check out some recent eats from a fun and family-filled weekend here.

With all the fun times, activities, and chats, late nights seem to be the norm as of late. For a person who looovvveeesss her sleep, I can attest that this can wreak havoc on everything from schedules, to eating, to mood swings, to sugar cravings, to nap time, to workout mojo.

Simply put : if you don’t log enough sleep, good intentions can go out the window!

Some recent studies have shown the following:

  • a significant and strong link has been found between sleep hours logged and weight gain<—-the more sleep someone has, the less likely he/she is to gain weight
  • a similar link was found between obesity and sleep hours : less sleep logged, the more likely the person is to be overweight or obese
  • sugar and fat cravings go crazy when not enough sleep is had

because he is so cute...

  • emotional rollercoasters are more apt to happen when sleep is lost
  • research has proven a link between active individuals and quality of sleep: the more active someone is, the better the quality of sleep.
  • hitting the pillow may be the key to squashing emotional, physical, and mental distress
  • sleeping enough helps alleviate stressful situations

If that doesn’t give you enough ooomph to hit the hay sooner rather than later, I don’t know what will! Besides, how refreshing is it when you awake from a nice, long deep sleep? It feels utterly fantastic.

I am so glad I was able to have the precious moments with great family late at night, but thankfully (for my health) those late night parties are only a few times per year. I am getting right back into my sleeping patterns starting tonight! (Usual time to bed: 10:15 p.m.. Usual time to wake up: 7:35 a.m.<—depends on the day)

  1. I definitely require lots of sleep to feel my best! I’ve been a bit of a night owl lately because we’re moving, but hopefully when I get settled in our new place and find a job, things will return to normalcy :) Hope you get your sleep tonight too, and I’m glad you had such a great weekend with the fam!

  2. I SO need my sleep! I wake up between 4:30 and 5:00 AM so I am in bed between 8:30 and 9:00 PM. I need a solid 8 hours most nights…Occasionally I will get less but I don’t feel near as good the next day when I do…

  3. The older I get the more sleep I need. I regret all those times as a kid that I refused a nap. I take atleast one nap a day, which tells me that I’m not getting enough sleep at night. I hope on my summer vacation I can catch up on sleep and have a healthier pattern.

  4. I’ve had sleeping problems for the past 10 years, since I was 13. It really, really stinks. On a good night, I get about 4-5 hours of decent sleep. By decent, I mean waking up only once an hour or so. It’ll get better for a while, and I’ll think I’ve kicked the problem…but it always comes back.

    I think it’s time to realize that I need the help of medication. SIGH.

    • Oh I am so sorry to hear that. That must be so frustrating! have you ever looked into trying some essential oils, like Lavender? It helps me sleep when I struggle :)
