Thankful Thursday + Fiber

Hey friends- good morning! :) Just so ya know, Thursdays around here on the website are going to be devoted to gratitude –because too often I find what is negative or wrong and instead I want to flip that in a healthy way and relate what is good, happy, wonderful, and what it is I am grateful for.  I hope you share with me what you’re grateful for (at least every Thursday— if not more!) as well.

I am thankful for:

me all wrapped up in bed

  • Good night’s sleep. There is nothin’ better than waking up well rested and ready to tackle the day. I love the feeling of being fully rested!

me and the husband-he makes me SMILE!!

  • my fabulous husband–did you notice how the website is changing (for the better) every day?! My husband is amazing and is tweaking a few things so it can be the way that I would like it. He is such a gem (a bro-in-law helped too)
  • My brain. I love that I have a brain that works well, that can sponge up information, and that allows me to think quickly.  It is an amazing part of our bodies and it hardly weighs anything!

What are YOU grateful for?

Breakfast:

I used to hate breakfast. I never was hungry in the morning, I didn’t love a certain cereal, and I felt like I never had time to get somethin’ down. This is all changed when my morning routine switched and I started working out in the mornings. By the time I am done and super sweaty and my body is rejuvenated, I am all about breakfast time!

oatmeal bowl!!

all sweaty and ready for some eats!

I love my oatmeal. In this bowl I had Oats + Soy Milk Lite + Water + Almond Butter + Jam + nutmeg.

Emma, my Amarylis is bloomin’ nicely, wouldn’t you say? She is a beauty! Check her out:

SO pretty!

So, why do I love my oatmeal? I love oatmeal because it is filling, tasty, and full of fiber. Fiber -what it is, and why it is important:

  • Fiber is the indigestible parts of plants that is important in any healthy diet. There are two kinds of fiber : Insoluble and Soluble help our bodies out.
  • Insoluble fiber can not dissolve in water and thus passes through the body, but it does absorb water and is important as it adds bulk and helps to keep regularity (if ya know what I mean. wink). This type is found in whole grains, wheat, flax seed, celery, and skins of many fruits/veggies.
  • Soluble fiber does dissolve in water and helps aid in lowering cholesterol levels and helping keep a healthy GI tract. This type is found in oats (oatmeal!!), apples, pears, carrots, and many other fruits/veggies.
  • Fiber adds bulk to foods as it goes through the system helping keep you full, satisfied, and healthy.
  • Plus, fiber is found mainly in plant foods, thus consuming enough fiber aids in the goal of increasing fruit, veggie, and whole grain consumption.

Here’s to fiber and its many benefits–maybe that is why I am feeling so chipper, alive, and satisfied from b-fast?? And with that, I wish you a happy, healthy, grateful Thursday.

What about YOU, did you have oats this morning too? :)
