My not-so secret Love

How are you doing today? It is hump day!! As you might have noticed, I teach a lot of fitness classes. I am constantly planning, choreographing, and practicing. So, as I was planning my class and putting together my playlist for Zumba tomorrow, I realized that this may be my not-so-secret love. You see, I love my husband. Like a lot. People always say we seem like we’re still on the honeymoon (for the record- we are!! and always will be!!). And really, I show my love for him by spending time with him. Thus, my love for Zumba is quite strong because of the time I spend with it (her? the class?). Get it? I heart Zumba!!

You know you’ve heard the word before : Zumba. Yet you’ve never had the courage to ask what exactly all the hype is surrounding Zumba, or you’re not sure who to ask? You are suffering in ignorance, my friends. I am here to explain the intricacies of Zumba, why it is all the rave right now, and why after reading this you’re going to check for the latest, local Zumba classes-because Zumba is the jam!!

Zumba was started by a native Colombian man named Beto Perez. Yep, that is him! Those abs came because of Zumba–I am telling you, Zumba is da bombdotcom!

Beto

He came to the United States as a dancer and eventually started his own company in 2001 to allow persons everywhere to enjoy the power of music and dance. Zumba is a latin-cardio dance class that incorporates such dances as Merengue, Salsa, Reggaeton, Cumbia, and much more. Zumba instructors are asked to teach by facial and physical cues rather than spoken cues so the students pay more attention to their bodies and the music. (I love this!!!) This distinct difference from other cardio classes however, may be the main reason why people can not get enough of Zumba!

The greatest perks of Zumba (in my opinion):

1. Feeling and moving to the music.

2. No one cares about what YOU look like. They are either watching themselves in the mirror or the teacher.

3. The classes differ from gym to gym and from instructor to instructor, so boredom is not even a question!

4. The environment is one of love, Zumba “glow” (the feeling you get at the end of class when you’ve danced your heart out), and acceptance.

5. It does not matter your size, ethnicity, gender, or age.

6. Hundreds of women and men alike have lost weight and become fit because of their healthy addiction to Zumba.

One day I will see you in my next Zumba class, right? :)
